Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Taylor is originally from Harbour Breton, Newfoundland. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in September, 1993, and completed his basic training at CFB Cornwallis, NS. From there he attended his occupation training as a Radio Operator at the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics (CFSCE). His first posting was to the 1st Canadian Division Headquarters and Signals Regiment in Kingston, ON.

He remained at the Signals Regiment for a total of 10 years, working in 1 Sqn, 3 Sqn and at Regimental HQ. He completed 3 deployments while at the Regiment, Golan Heights in 1998, Bosnia in 2000 and Afghanistan in 2004. Upon his return from Afghanistan he was posted to 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters and Signal Squadron (2 Sigs) at CFB Petawawa. Promoted to Sergeant in 2007, he returned to Afghanistan as part of the Joint Task Force Afghanistan National Command Element.

Upon return he was posted to the 3rd Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment as the Command Post Section Commander and then 2 Service Battalion as the Signals Platoon WO. Promoted to Warrant Officer in 2011 he returned to 2 Sigs as the A Tp WO and subsequently filled the positions of Ops WO and 2 Bde Asst Chief Comm Op.

Promoted to Master Warrant Officer in July 2015, he returned to CFSCE as the 2 Squadron Sergeant-Major (SSM), the HQ SSM and the DSM in succession.

After completing second language training in 2019 at the Kingston Garrison Language School he was the CFSCE Chief Comm Op for a year, until his selection for promotion in 2020 and appointment as the 77 Line Regt Regimental-Sergeant Major.

CWO Taylor resides in Kingston, ON with his 2 children, Kayla and Silas.
