Her Royal Highness Princess Anne visited Moncton, New Brunswick in May 2023 to celebrate the 8th Canadian Hussars’ 175th anniversary. Princess Anne has served as the regiment’s Colonel-in-Chief since 1972.[1] Her Royal Highness is Colonel-in-Chief of seven Canadian military regiments and patron of numerous Canadian charities and organizations. Among them, our very own Communications and Electronics Branch. POSITION Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, appointed, HRH Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, as Colonel-in-Chief of the Communications and Electronics (C&E) Branch of the Canadian Armed Forces on June 11, 1977 during the Queen’s Silver Jubilee and has held the position for the subsequent 46 years! With a half-century of service and dedication, HRH Princess Anne has had historical significance, and enduring impact through her association with this vital military branch. History HRH Princess Anne is the second of two Colonel-in-Chiefs of the Communications and Electronics Branch. The Communications and Electronics Branch is proud to remember Sergeant Wireless Operator/Air Gunner Francisco Lua Manzo, a Latin American who flew with the RCAF during the Second World War flying in bombers with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).
The CFIOG Comd, Col Crosby and CWO S. Mailer had the joy of promoting MWO Filion to CWO Filion on 16 May in CFS Leitrim’s All Ranks Mess. We were lucky enough to be joined by his wife and father for this event as well as many CWOs that were previously Sig Int Spec and Cyber Op. All tolled, there were 10 former Sig Int Spec and Cyber Op CWO/CPO1s in attendance plus CWO Mailer and the L2 DGIMO CWO. It was an excellent turnout to celebrate this career milestone for CWO Filion.
