RETIREMENT – MASTER WARRANT OFFICER SEAN SILVER, CD – 00384 – LINE TECH

MASTER WARRANT OFFICER SEAN SILVER, CD WILL RELEASE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON JUNE 03 2022, AFTER 35 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA, THE ROYAL CANADIAN CORPS OF SIGNALS AND THE LINE TRADE. SEAN WAS SWORN IN AND SENT TO RECRUIT SCHOOL IN 1987 IN CORNWALLIS, NS. UPON SUCCESSFUL QUALIFICATION COMPLETION HE THEN STARTED HIS INFMN QL3 COURSE WHERE HE ENGAGED IN RCR BATTLE SCHOOL IN PETAWAWA. SUBSEQUENTLY, HE THEN SERVED WITH 1 ROYAL CANADIAN REGT FOR 12 YEARS. DURING HIS TIME WITH THE RCR HE SERVED IN BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA AND CROATIA AS WELL AS COMPLETING A POSTING TO GERMANY AT CFB BADEN-SOELLINGEN. IN MAR OF 1999 SEAN CHANGED TRADES TO BECOME A LINEMAN. HE THEN COMPLETED HIS LINE QUALIFICATION AT CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS IN KINGSTON, ON. AND BECAME A FULLY QUALIFIED TRADESMAN IN 1999. UPON COMPLETION, NEWLY TRAINED CPL SILVER WAS POSTED TO CANADIAN FORCES JOINT SIGNAL REGIMENT IN KINGSTON, ON. AS A LINEMAN HE DEPLOYED ON SEVERAL TAV’S TO AFRICA AND AFGHANISTAN AS WELL AS VARIOUS BASES ACROSS CANADA. Veterans wanted for Dieppe Raid 80th Anniversary

The Government of Canada is planning an overseas commemorative event to mark the Dieppe Raid’s 80th Anniversary. An official delegation will travel overseas from approximately August 14 to August 21, 2022 to attend events at several sites in Dieppe, France. The National Council of Veteran Associations in Canada (NCVA) has been asked to nominate one Canadian veteran to represent our organization. This veteran should have connections to the Dieppe Raid or Second World War. Nominations for any Canadian Dieppe Raid veterans interested in joining the delegation can also be made. The nominees should be in good health, able to travel overseas, and comfortable with formal and candid presentations regarding their military service. Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) requires veterans older than 80, or those with a medical condition that requires help with daily living requirements, have a caregiver accompany them on the trip. VAC has asked that we send any nominations by June 3, 2022, so please contact me as soon as possible if you would like to nominate someone. SERGANT MICHAEL SCHLIWA WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 26 MAY 2022 AFTER 17 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA.  SGT SCHLIWA ENROLLED AS A COMMUNICATOR RESEARCH OPERATOR – NOW SIGNALS INTELLIGENCE SPECIALIST – ON 12 OCTOBER 2005. DURING HIS CAREER HE SERVED AT 21 ELECTRONIC WARFARE REGIMENT AT CFB KINGSTON, CFS LEITRIM, AND ALSO DEPLOYED TO AFGHANISTAN IN 2010 AND LATVIA IN 2019.  SGT SCHLIWA WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE HE HAS HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE WITH OVER THE YEARS. HE IS ALSO VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE ONGOING SUPPORT OF HIS FAMILY AND LOOKS FORWARD TO A NEW ADVENTURE IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR.  SGT SCHLIWA AND HIS WIFE LISA WILL BE SETTLING DOWN IN HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA AND LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING THEIR TWO CHILDREN GROW. To recognize Sqn members’ accomplishment and performance throughout OP REASSURANCE, the TFL Command Team handed out various TFL awards to members of the Sig Sqn on 20 May 2022. The awards were: TFL Commander’s Coin: Awarded in recognition of remarkable performance or contribution which brought credit to the Task Force; TFL Commander’s Commendation: Awarded in recognition of outstanding performances or contributions which brought credit to the Task Force; and TFL Command Team Award – Best Team Award: Awarded to the team that displayed the highest level of cohesiveness and that contributed the most to the overall success of the eFP. The recipients are as follows: TFL COMD COINS Cpl Huynh (5 GBMC QGET) “Cpl Huynh was deployed from 9 Dec 21 to 13 Jun 22 as part of the Signal Squadron and employed as part of the TFL HQ Service Desk Team. During his tenure, there was a notable increase in service to the HQ. AFTER 39+ YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA AND THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES, LCOL SHELLEY NICKERSON WILL RETIRE ON 15 JULY 2022.   LCOL NICKERSON JOINED THE CAF ON 23 SEPTEMBER 1983, AS PART OF THE YOUTH TRAINING EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (YTEP, 1YR GOV’T-SPONSORED MILITARY TRAINING) AND PROCEEDED TO BASIC TRAINING IN CORNWALLIS, N.S. AFTER BASIC TRAINING, SHE WAS SENT TO BORDEN TO COMPLETE THE PHOTO TECHNICIAN TQ3 LEVEL TRAINING. AFTER COMPLETION, SHE WAS SENT TO PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, TO COMPLETE THE YTEP YEAR. SHE WAS THEN OFFERED TO JOIN THE REGULAR FORCE AS A PHOTO TECHNICIAN AND UPON ACCEPTANCE, WAS POSTED TO GREENWOOD, NOVA SCOTIA WHERE SHE MET HER HUSBAND DAVE, AND SPENT THE NEXT 8 YEARS, POSTED TO BASE PHOTO, THE DIAC, AND AIR PHOTO.   IN 1992, LCOL NICKERSON WAS POSTED TO THE PHOTO UNIT IN OTTAWA. IN MAY 1994, SHE WAS ACCEPTED TO THE UNIVERSITY TRAINING PLAN FOR NON-COMMISSIONED MEMBERS AND PROCEEDED TO BASIC OFFICER TRAINING IN CHILLIWACK, B.C.
