Featured Image: Capt Adams receiving CDS Commendation from A/CDS Gen Wayne Eyre. The MND and A/CDS visited this week and we used this as an opportunity to have the CDS present a few CDS Commendations as well as a CWO Scroll. Capt Adams and PO2 Crockett were awarded their commendations due to the response efforts for the RMC Net ransomware attack. In July 2020, Capt Adams, a cyber protection team officer, led the team in resolving the largest cyber ransomware incident in CAF history. Displaying tremendous leadership, his team deployed and resolved the RMC cyber incident, identifying the originating compromise but also further identifying two additional unknown network attacks. Capt Adams’ professionalism and tradecraft ensured continuing education of over 1000 RMC students, limiting disruption to CAF professional development and resulted in valuable Five-Eyes intelligence reporting. In July 2020, then-MS Crockett, a cyber protection team technical lead provided crucial technical analysis and forensic investigation leading to the team resolving the largest cyber ransomware incident in CAF history. His technical acumen and insight ensured the RMC attack was addressed quickly with network operations restored. MS Crockett’s tradecraft was key in maintaining the ongoing education and ensured the continuing availability of professional development […]

OP JIMMY SANTA 2021

Nov 9, 2021 | 1 comment

We’re at it again. The C&E Association, this year in partnership with the C&E Museum has assembled a dedicated band of Santa’s helpers (thanks to CFSCE) to pack up and send a small package of Branch logo swag to each deployed member. It is a small gesture, but a gesture designed to tell members deployed away from home for the holiday season that the C&E Family is thinking of them and values their service. The photo shows some helpers in action assembling 180 gifts for dispatch via Canada Post. Our thanks go out especially to the folks from the Museum Mercury Shop, CFSCE and CJOC HQ who ensured we reached out to the right people. Merry Christmas and best wishes of the season to all who serve their country with pride. (Pictured here are masked ‘helpers’ AKA: Aviator Verra, Private Blight, Private Hagen, Private Reimer and Private Clark-Caroll. Photo by Mercury Shop)

HCLOS Course Graduation

Nov 5, 2021 | 0 comments

Featured Image: Staff and students of HCLOS course serial 0086 Photo Credit: MCpl Pritchard In autumn of 2021, the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre (CMTC) in Wainwright ran a successful High Capacity Line of Sight (HCLOS) course, serial 0086, with personnel attending from local units, including: CMTC, 41 Signals Regiment, 3rd Canadian Division Support Group Signal Squadron, and 3rd Canadian Division Training Centre. Concurrent to the HCLOS course, many future Majors led the charge on their Combat Team Commander Course. With cooperative weather, and the Garrison Sergeant Major abstaining from pulling the giant snowstorm creation lever, the most difficult part of the HCLOS course became deciding whether to pronounce HCLOS “H-C-LOS” or “H-CLOS.” As Wainwright is in the 3rd Canadian Division AOR, “H-C-LOS” became the proper pronunciation. The Army of the West marches to our own drum beat. Congratulations to all the students on their new qualification!

Last Message from Col Cmdt BGen (Ret) O’Keefe

Oct 30, 2021 | 7 comments

TO OUR C&E BRANCH MEMBERS – SERVING AND RETIRED LATE LAST MONTH ON 28 OCT DURING C&E WEEK I HANDED OVER MY COL CMDT DUTIES TO BGEN (RETIRED) JOSEE ROBIDOUX, OMM,CD. WHAT FOLLOWS IS A FEW MOMENTS OF REFLECTION ON THE PAST THREE YEARS AND LONGER. IT WAS IN SEP 1971 THAT I FIRST PUT ON MY CAF UNIFORM AND 50 YEARS LATER IN OCT 2021 I TOOK IT OFF FOR THE LAST TIME. DURING THOSE 50 YEARS I HAVE SERVED AS BRANCH LEADER, PRESIDENT OF OUR MUSEUM FOUNDATION, PRESIDENT OF OUR C&E ASSOCIATION AND NOW AS COLONEL COMMANDANT. SO I HAVE SEEN OUR C&E FAMILY FROM MANY DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES. I HAVE BEEN TRULY HONOURED AND HUMBLED TO SERVE AS YOUR COLONEL COMMANDANT. IT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY MILITARY CAREER AND JUST TO BE ON THE SAME LIST WITH NAMES LIKE GENET, CLARK, WEBBER, BANKS AND RICHARD IS A RATHER HUMBLING EXPERIENCE. MY GOAL WHEN I WAS APPOINTED COLONEL COMMANDANT IN 2018 WAS TO RAISE THE PROFILE OF THE APPOINTMENT WITH OUR SERVING MEMBERS. YOUR BRANCH CHIEF CWO PHILIBERT AND I OUTLINED A PLAN THAT WOULD HAVE HAD US VISIT EVERY UNIT OF OUR BRANCH DURING OUR THREE […]
