RETIREMENT – LCOL STEPHAN METIVIER, CD – 00341 SIGS

1. LIEUTENANT-COLONEL STEPHAN METIVIER WILL BE RETIRING FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 3 JULY 2020 AFTER HAVING PROUDLY SERVED HIS BELOVED CANADA FOR A TOTAL OF 40 YEARS, INCLUDING SIX YEARS IN THE PRIMARY RESERVE AND 34 YEARS IN THE REGULAR FORCE. 2. STEPHAN WAS BORN AND RAISED IN QUEBEC CITY AND JOINED THE ARMY CADETS IN 1976 AT THE TENDER AGE OF 12. HE ACHIEVED THE RANK OF SERGEANT BEFORE TRANSFERRING TO THE ARMY RESERVE IN 1980 AS A NON-COMMISSIONED MEMBER WITH LES VOLTIGEURS DE QUEBEC, A LIGHT INFANTRY REGIMENT. HE WAS ATTACHED TO 1R22ER DURING THE 1984 FALL EXERCISES IN GERMANY, AND WAS PART OF THE MASSIVE SHOW OF FORCE BY WESTERN NATIONS ALONG THE BERLIN WALL, IN THE THICK OF THE COLD WAR. WHILE SERVING AS A WEEKEND WARRIOR, HE NOT ONLY LEARNED THE BASIC TENETS OF THE LIFE OF A MODEST SOLDIER, BUT HE ALSO COMPLETED HIS COLLEGE EDUCATION AT CEGEP LIMOILOU, OBTAINING AN ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING DIPLOMA. 3. 1. LIEUTENANT-COLONEL IAN BARNES WILL RELEASE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 28 AUGUST 2020, AFTER 25 PLUS YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA. 2. LCOL BARNES JOINED THE CAF IN 1995 AND GRADUATED FROM THE ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE OF CANADA IN 1999 WITH A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN CHEMICAL AND MATERIAL ENGINEERING. FOLLOWING HIS SIGNALS OFFICER TRAINING AT THE CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION AND ELECTRONICS (CFSCE), HE WAS POSTED TO 2 CANADIAN MECHANIZED BRIGADE GROUP (2 CMBG) WHERE HE SERVED IN 2 CMBG HEADQUARTERS AND SIGNAL SQUADRON, THE 2ND REGIMENT ROYAL CANADIAN HORSE ARTILLERY, AND WITH THE 3RD BATTALION, THE ROYAL CANADIAN REGIMENT. IN 2004 HE RETURNED TO THE CFSCE AS AN INSTRUCTOR AND OPERATIONS OFFICER BEFORE BEING PROMOTED AND HEADING TO THE CANADIAN FORCES JOINT SIGNAL REGIMENT (CFJSR) AS OFFICER COMMANDING (OC) 3 SQUADRON. IN 2009, HE WAS FORTUNATE TO RETURN TO CFSCE TO COMMAND 1 SQUADRON. IN THE YEARS FOLLOWING HE COMPLETED THE AUSTRALIAN SIGNAL CORPS’ REGIMENTAL OFFICERS’ ADVANCED COURSE AND THE USMC UNIVERSITY COMMAND AND STAFF COURSE. REMINDER: Branch Honours & Awards Posted

The Branch Honours & Awards for 2020 have been revised and uploaded on CMCEN.  Please look to the CMCEN homepage and select the H&A option from the drop-down menu. Updated instructions and submission templates now exist for the following: Colonel-in-Chief Commendation C&E Branch Commendation Subaltern of the Year Member of the Year C&E Branch Educational Bursary C&E Heritage Awards Furthermore, all competitions are now accepting applications: Submissions for the Colonel-in-Chief Commendation are due to the Branch Adjutant (Major Blair Christie) NLT Tuesday, 30 June 2020 at 1500 hours (EST); The Branch Commendation does not adhere to a rigid submission timeline and applications may be forwarded to the Branch Adjutant at any time; The Subaltern and Member of the Year Awards must be channeled through the respective Occupation Advisor (OA) for each MOSID as detailed in the instructions.  The submission due date to the OAs is NLT Tuesday, 30 June 2020 at 1500 hours (EST).  The OAs shall then reduce the pool of submissions to nine (9) in total, each of which shall be confirmed as the top junior member for each occupational specialty in the C&E Branch.  Of those, one shall be further appointed as the top C&E subaltern and […]

C&E Family: In one of his first official functions as our newly appointed Branch Leader, Brigadier-General James Lambert had the pleasure of promoting two senior Branch members to the rank of Colonel on June 10th, 2020. The promotions took place in the presence of family in virtual ceremonies. They are… Colonel Scott Gillingham; and Colonel Pascal Ouellet. Furthermore, the Branch Leader received confirmation on June 9th, 2020 that the Chief of Military Personnel officially endorsed the nomination of Colonel Eric Charron to serve as the new C&E Branch Advisor. Colonel Charron – presently 17 Wing Commander in Winnipeg, Manitoba – is set to replace Colonel Stéphane Roy on July 27th, 2020. Colonel Roy is appointed Chief of Staff for the 2nd Canadian Division in Montréal, Québec. A virtual change-of-appointment ceremony is set to occur at that time.
