Old Comrade Stewart “Skip” Duffie

Stewart “Skip” Duffie (1936-2019), of Head of Jeddore, passed away in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour on Thursday, 2 May 2019, surrounded by his daughter Debbie and one love, wife “Kim”. Skip courageously fought an extended battle with CML, Leukemia, odds stacked hard against him so many times, facing each hurdle with humour and dignity. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Florence and Richard Riley, was preceded by his brother “Bob” and daughter, Kimberly. Skip was a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, was a paratrooper and advanced communications specialist. Skip often fondly reminisced about of his Musquodoboit Harbour Detachment RCMP ” boys”, of whom he was so proud and with whom he made a lifelong friendship during his time as a local Justice of the Peace. He was an avid reader and had a love of learning, he was a self taught computer programmer and enjoyed all technology, including ham radio and repairing computers. Skip is survived by his wife of 59 years “Kim” and daughter, Debbie(Frank); grandchildren Sonja (Cam), Kaitlin (Nick), Krystal (Martin) and his grandson and best buddy, “Graysen”; great-grandchilden, Avalyn and Atlas. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Cole Harbour Funeral Home and Crematorium. As per Skip’s wishes, a service was held in Saint Genevieve’s Church, East Chezzetcook on Friday, May 10th, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour. Kim and Debbie would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to every single staff member of Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, from the doctors and nurses to the kitchen, lab and janitorial, where Skip was always treated like family and where he chose to spend his final days. Over many years, each one of you went above and beyond the call of duty and your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. “Goodbye is just a word but memories are forever in our hearts.”
