1. COLONEL WALTER WOOD WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 5 SEPTEMBER AFTER 35.8 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA. HE CURRENTLY SERVES AS DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL CYBERSPACE.

2. COL WOOD JOINED THE PRIMARY RESERVE ON 4 NOVEMBER 1982 AND TRANSFERRED TO THE REGULAR FORCE ON 21 JUNE 1984. DURING HIS CAREER AS A SIGNALS OFFICER, HE WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE COMMANDED 3 RCR SIGNAL PLATOON IN BADEN-SOELLINGEN, GERMANY, 731 COMMUNICATION SQUADRON, SHILO, MANITOBA, THE CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS, KINGSTON, AND 7 COMMUNICATION GROUP, OTTAWA. AS WELL AS HAVING SERVED IN MANY REWARDING STAFF POSITIONS, COL WOOD DEPLOYED TO CYPRUS, SOMALIA, AND AFGHANISTAN DURING HIS CAREER. OTHER CAREER HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE SURVIVING FOUR YEARS AT RMC, OBTAINING A MASTER’S DEGREE IN ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT FROM CARLETON UNIVERSITY, AND COMPLETING THE NATIONAL SECURITY STUDIES PROGRAM AT THE NATO DEFENSE COLLEGE, ROME.

3. COL WOOD AND HIS FAMILY WILL BE STAYING IN THE OTTAWA AREA WHERE HE WILL BE TAKING ON A POSITION WITHIN THE PUBLIC SERVICE.

4. A DEPART WITH DIGNITY CEREMONY FOR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES TO CELEBRATE COL WOODS MILITARY CAREER WILL BE HELD AT THE ARMY OFFICERS MESS (149 SOMERSET ST W, OTTAWA, ON, K2P 0H7) ON 4 SEPTEMBER 2018, STARTING AT 1430 HRS.
