1. LIEUTENANT-COLONEL OLIVIER HOULE WAS BORN ON OCTOBRE 20TH, 1978 IN LONGUEUIL, QUÉBEC. CHILD OF A MILITARY MEMBER, HE LIVED IN QUÉBEC, ONTARIO, BRITISH-COLUMBIA AND THE UNITED KINGDOM BEFORE JOINING THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES (CAF) IN 1995 AT THE AGE OF 16. ADVENTURER OF HIS COUNTRY AND PRIOR MEMBER OF THE AIR AND NAVAL CADETS, HE KNEW WHAT HE WANTED.

2. HIS 28-YEAR CAREER BROUGHT HIM ON ASSIGNMENTS TO CHILLIWACK BC, ST-JEAN QC, KINGSTON ON, BAGOTVILLE QC, BORDEN ON, COLD LAKE AB, QUÉBEC CITY QC, WINNIPEG MB AND OTTAWA ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. HE ALSO ATTENDED MULTIPLE TRAINING PHASES AND COURSES AROUND THE WORLD.

3. AFTER A FAILED EYE EXAM FORCED HIM OUT OF PILOT WORK, HE CHOSE THE AEROSPACE ENGINEERING (AERE) TRADE TO PURSUE HIS CAREER. IN 2000, HE EARNED A MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEGREE AT THE ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE IN KINGSTON, ON. THEN IN 2005, AFTER HAVING EARNED HIS STRIPES AS AN OFFICER IN DGAEPM, HE WAS POSTED TO COLD LAKE TO THE FIGHTER OPERATIONAL TEST AND EVALUATION FLIGHT TO FILL THE MOST EXCITING ROLE OF HIS CAREER IN THE BACK SEAT OF A CF-18. COLD LAKE IS WHERE HIS LOVE OF FLYING, PROBLEM-SOLVING, THE MISSION, ADVENTURE, ADRENALINE, SPORTS AND POKER CAME TOGETHER AND REMAINED FOR THE REST OF HIS CAREER. IN 2007, BETWEEN A VOLLEYBALL COMPETITION AND FLIGHT TRAINING IN THE MOJAVE DESERT, HE MET THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE, DORI, DURING A WEDDING THAT LASTED A FULL WEEK (FOR WHICH HE’LL FOREVER BE GRATEFUL).

4. IN 2008, HE WAS ASSIGNED TO MORE SCHOOLING, THIS TIME IN BEAUTIFUL QUÉBEC CITY, WHERE HE EARNED A MASTERS IN PHYSICS AND ELECTRO-OPTICS AT LAVAL UNIVERSITY AND DURING WHICH HE MARRIED DORI, IN EDMONTON, AB. THE OCCASION WAS MARKED BY A HEART FORMATION DEDICATED TO THEM BY THE SNOWBIRDS. THEN IN 2012, DURING A SECOND POSTING TO OTTAWA, HE WAS SENT TO KANDAHAR IN AFGHANISTAN IN SUPPORT OF OPERATION ATHENA, WHERE EVERYTHING HE HAD LEARNED SINCE BASIC TRAINING SUDDENLY CONNECTED.

5. IN 2013, HE WAS SELECTED AS ONLY THE SECOND AERE IN 70 YEARS TO INSTRUCT ON THE AEROSPACE SYSTEMS COURSE IN WINNIPEG, WHERE HE EVENTUALLY BECAME COURSE DIRECTOR AND VOTED BEST INSTRUCTOR IN 2015. IN 2014, DURING OPERATION LENTUS, HE WAS NAMED COMMANDER OF THE CAF TROOPS HELPING CITIZENS DURING THE MANITOBA FLOODS, A ROLE THAT WAS NEAR AND DEAR TO HIS HEART. IN 2016, HE WAS ASSIGNED TO 1 CANADIAN AIR DIVISION WHERE HE SUPPORTED ALL RCAF OPERATIONS AROUND THE WORLD WHILE CONCURRENTLY COMPLETING THE JOINT COMMAND AND STAFF PROGRAMME. IN 2018, HE WAS ASSIGNED TO THE POSITION OF MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR AT 402 SQUADRON, THE MOST GRATIFYING ROLE OF HIS CAREER. IN 2020, HE WAS GRANTED THE OPPORTUNITY TO RETURN TO OTTAWA, THIS TIME TO ADVANCE GOVERNMENT PROJECTS IN THE REALM OF DRONES AND SPACE AND, IN 2024, ACCEPTED AN OFFER TO JOIN THE PUBLIC SERVICE.

6. AFTER SEVERAL JOBS THAT WERE UNCONVENTIONAL EVEN TO HIS TRADE, A SEMI-PRO VOLLEYBALL CAREER, ADVENTURES AND A LACK OF SLEEP, LIEUTENENT-COLONEL HOULE UNASSAILABLY BLAZED HIS OWN TRAIL. HIS FONDEST MEMORIES ARE HIS ADVENTURES, HIS SENSE OF HAVING ACCOMPLISHED HIS DUTY AND, MOST NOTABLY, THE BEGINNINGS OF HIS FAMILY (DORI, SIRCHA AND ELSA) AND THE UNFORGETTABLE FRIENDSHIPS THEY MADE ALONG THE WAY.

7. LIEUTENANT-COLONEL HOULE HAS ASKED FOR A DEPART WITH DIGNITY IN AN INTIMATE SETTING.
