1. AFTER 31 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA AND THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES, MAJOR BARBARA O’GORMAN WILL BE RETIRING ON 17 JANUARY 2022.

2. MAJ O’GORMAN JOINED THE CAF ON 18 OCTOBER 1990 AND PROCEEDED TO BASIC TRAINING IN CORNWALLIS, NS. AFTER BASIC TRAINING SHE WAS SENT TO CFSCE TO COMPLETE POET TRAINING. AFTER COMPLETING POET IN 1991, FRP CAUSED MAJ O’GORMAN TO BE OCCUPATIONALLY TRANSFERRED FROM THE ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE TO THE ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY UNDER THE NAVAL COMBAT SYSTEM TECHNICIAN TRAINING PROGRAM.

3. UPON COMPLETION OF HER NAVAL TECHNICIAN TRAINING IN ST. JOHN’S NEWFOUNDLAND SHE WAS POSTED TO ESQUIMALT, BC AND SERVED ONBOARD HMCS ANNAPOLIS AND AS A MEMBER OF THE ORIGINAL CREW ONBOARD HMCS OTTAWA. MAJOR O’GORMAN WAS ACCEPTED TO THE UNIVERSITY TRAINING PLAN FOR NON-COMMISSION MEMBERS IN SEPTEMBER 2001. SHE ATTENDED ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE OF CANADA AND GRADUATED AS AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER IN 2005.

4. MAJ O’GORMAN RETURNED TO CFSCE IN 2005 TO COMPLETE SIGNALS TRAINING AND FOR THE LAST 16 YEARS HAS SERVED IN ESQUIMALT, HALIFAX AND OTTAWA. DURING HER CAREER SHE WAS PRIVILEGED TO SERVE ON THREE CAF OPERATIONS.

5. BARBARA HAS ACCEPTED A PUBLIC SERVICE POSITION WITH THE ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY AND WILL BE STAYING IN THE OTTAWA AREA WITH HER PARTNER IN ADVENTURE, DAVID TESSIER.

6. MAJOR O’GORMAN WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE MANY PEOPLE SHE HAS WORKED WITH, AS THE PAST 31 YEARS HAVE GONE BY SO QUICKLY FROM ALL THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE, GOOD FRIENDS AND GREAT EXPERIENCES THAT HAVE MADE IT SEEM LIKE JUST YESTERDAY WHEN SHE WAS STANDING IN DARK, COLD RAIN AT THE GATES OF CORNWALLIS. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE LAUGHS, TEARS AND FOREVER FRIENDSHIPS.

7.
