RETIREMENT – MAJOR JOHN MILNE, CD – 00341 – SIGS

1. MAJ JOHN MILNE WILL RETIRE ON 27 JULY 2022 AFTER MORE THAN 38 YEARS OF SERVICE WITH THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES. MAJ MILNE STARTED HIS JOURNEY WITH THE CAF AS A BANDSMAN WITH THE WEST NOVA SCOTIA REGIMENT IN 1979. AS A SIGNALS OFFICER, LT MILNE WAS POSTED TO 1 CDN DIV SIG REGT IN 1993, AND THEN TO LFC HQ ST HUBERT IN 1994.

CAPT MILNE WORKED AS THE INSTALLATION COORDINATOR WITH THE DMHS PROJECT FROM 1996-2001 WHERE HE HELPED DEVELOP THE COMMON EMAIL AND SECURE COMMON EMAIL (PKI). CAPT MILNE WAS POSTED TO LFAA HQ AS G6 OPS AND PLANS IN 2001, WHERE HE ALSO HELD THE MESS ENTERTAINMENT CHAIR. CAPT MILNE WAS POSTED BACK TO KINGSTON IN 2004 AS CFJSR 2 I/C LINE, THEN TO 1 WING HQ AS A6 AND THEN TO CFJHQ AS J6 OPS AND PLANS. IN 2008, CAPT MILNE WAS POSTED TO COMM DET SELFKANT IN GERMANY AS COS/OPS/PLANS/CUSTODIAN/EUROPE ISSO.

CAPT MILNE RECEIVED A COMMENDATION WHILE IN GERMANY FOR LEADING THE SETUP OF SPANGDAHLEM WHEN CAMP MIRAGE SUDDENLY FOUND THEMSELVES WITHOUT A HOME, HE ALSO RECEIVED THE FIRST OF NUMEROUS ADM IM NOVA AWARDS FOR ASSISTANCE PROVIDED TO OP MOBILE. CAPT MILNE WAS POSTED TO HALIFAX IN 2011 AS MARLANT N61-2 OPS/TTCC DET CDR/JTFA J6-2. MAJ MILNE WAS POSTED TO TRINITY AS OIM HOD IN 2012 AND THEN DEPLOYED TO KOSOVO IN 2013 AS NATO CHIEF INFOSEC FOR KFOR.

AFTER KOSOVO, MAJ MILNE WAS POSTED TO 5 DIV HQ AS G6 PLANS IN 2014, HE THEN ENJOYED THE SUMMER IN INUVIK FOR OP NANOOK IN 2015 AND THE AUTUMN IN OTTAWA FOR JOINTEX. MAJ MILNE WAS POSTED TO DIMEUS IN OTTAWA IN 2016 WHERE HE OVERSAW THE NCR IT WAREHOUSE, THE NCR CSNI TEAM AND THE TCI SHOP. HE ALSO HAD AN INTERESTING TIME RECOVERING HARDWARE FROM THE BURNED-OUT LOUIS ST. LAURENT BUILDING.

IN 2017, MAJ MILNE MOVED TO 7 COMM GROUP WHERE HE WAS THE DEFSOC SUPERVISOR AND WORKED CLOSELY WITH THE ITSM PROJECT TO DELIVER ITSM, RECEIVING TWO ADDITIONAL NOVA AWARDS FOR HIS WORK IN OTTAWA. IN 2018, MAJ MILNE WAS POSTED BACK TO 5 DIV HQ IN HALIFAX.

3. AFTER RETIREMENT, MAJ MILNE EVENTUALLY INTENDS TO MOVE TO PLYMOUTH, ENGLAND WITH HIS WIFE KAREN BICKFORD, WHERE THEY OWN A HOME BUT WILL REMAIN IN HALIFAX FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS TO TIE UP LOOSE ENDS.

4. DEPART WITH DIGNITY EVENT WILL BE HELD FOR MAJOR MILNE AT THE LOWER DECK BAR AND GRILL, 278 LACEWOOD DRIVE, HALIFAX, 27 JULY 22. PLEASE INFORM CAPT RALPH T.
