Retirement Date: 09/07/2024

1. AFTER 38 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA AND THE ROYAL CANADIAN CORPS OF SIGNAL, MWO BIRCH WILL BE RETIRING ON 09 JULY 2024.

2. ADRIAN ENROLLED IN THE NAVAL RESERVE AT HMCS DISCOVERY IN VANCOUVER IN JULY OF 1986 UNDER THE SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (SYEP). HE THEN TRANSFERED TO THE COMMUNICATION RESERVE AS A RADIO TELETYPE OPERATOR IN 1989, AND ULTIMATELY TO THE REGULAR FORCE AS A SIGNAL OPERATOR IN 2010.

3. AS A FULL TIME RESERVE, MWO BIRCH SERVED AS THE 73/74 COMMUNICATION GROUP OPERATIONS WO, 1 CANADIAN MECHANIZED BRIGADE GROUP (1 CMBG) G3 EQUIPMENT, AND 1 CMBG HQ SERGEANT MAJOR. FOLLOWING HIS TRANSFER TO THE REGULAR FORCE, HE SERVED WITH 1 CMBG HQ AND SIGNAL SQUADRON AS THE ALPHA TROOP WO, 1ST BATALLION PRINCESS PATRICIA’S CANADIAN LIGHT INFANTRY (1 PPCLI) AS THE SIG PL WO, FOLLOWED BY A POSTING WITH CANADIAN SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCES COMMAND HEADQUARTERS AS THE CHIEF COMMUNICATION OPERATOR AND WITH NATO AT SHAPE HQ IN BELGIUM AS PRINCIPLE TECHNICIAN FOR COMSEC COMPLIANCE. UPON HIS RETURN TO CANADA, HE WAS POSTED TO HIS CURRENT POSTION AS THE 76 COMMUNICATIONS REGIMENT HEADQUARTERS SERGEANT-MAJOR.

4. MWO BIRCH HAS PARTICIPATED IN OP ABACUS, OP PODIUM, OP LUSTRE, OP LENTUS, OP ATHENA AND OP IMPACT.

5. ADRIAN WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE HIS SPOUSE DANIELA, DAUGHTER EMMA AND SON ELAM FOR THEIR UNWAVERING SUPPORT AND UNDERSTANDING THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER.

6. ADRIAN WILL REMAIN IN THE NCR WITH HIS SPOUSE AND SON, WHILE HIS DAUGHTER EMMA CONTINUES HER STUDIES AT UNIVERSITY IN EDMONTON. HE WILL BE TRANSITIONING TO THE PUBLIC SERVICE AND REMAIN WITHIN DND.
