1. MASTER WARRANT OFFICER GARY JACKLIN WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES AND THE ROYAL CANADIAN CORPS OF SIGNALS ON 05 JULY 2019 AFTER 35 PLUS YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA.

2. MWO JACKLIN JOINED THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 17 OCTOBER 1983 IN KITCHENER/WATERLOO ONTARIO UNDER THE YOUTH TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (YTEP) AS A RADIO OPERATOR 211. AFTER COMPLETING TRADES TRAINING HE WAS POSTED TO THE EIGHTH CANADIAN HUSSARS (8CH) IN PETAWAWA ONTARIO. AFTER THREE YEARS EXERCISING IN MEAFORD, PETAWAWA AND WAINWRIGHT WITH THE ARMOURED CORPS HE WAS THEN POSTED TO THE SPECIAL SERVICE FORCE HEADQUARTERS AND SIGNALS SQUADRON IN 1987. 1987 WAS AN EVENTFUL YEAR, MARRYING HIS HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART TINA EARLY IN THE YEAR AND HAVING TWIN BOYS, DEVIN AND DREW LATER IN THE YEAR. 1988 TURNED OUT TO BE EVENTFUL AS WELL WITH THE SUCESSFUL COMPLETION OF HIS QL5A COURSE AND HIS FIRST OPERATIONAL DEPLOYMENT TO IRAQ AS PART OF THE UNITED NATIONS MISSION IN IRAN/IRAQ.

3. IN 1989, HE WAS POSTED TO THE COMMUNICATIONS SQUADRON IN LAHR, GERMANY WHERE HE WOULD WORK IN THE FACILITY CONTROL CENTER (FCC), MILITARY AERONAUTICAL COMMUNICATIONS CENTER (MACS), GATEWAY AND MOBILE RADIO DETACHMENT. FOLLOWING THE FIRST GULF WAR, GARY WAS DEPLOYED TO TURKEY AS AN INMARSAT OPERATOR TO ASSIST OPERATIONS IN NORTHERN IRAQ IN 1991. TINA AND GARY WERE AGAIN BLESSED WITH THE BIRTH OF THEIR DAUGHTER JESSICA IN 1991.

4. WITH BASE SCHOOLS CLOSING AHEAD OF BASE LAHR CLOSING MWO JACKLIN WAS POSTED BACK TO CANADA TO THE FIRST CANADIAN DIVISION HEADQUARTERS AND SIGNALS REGIMENT (1CDHSR) IN KINGSTON ONTARIO IN 1993. HERE HE STARTED OUT AS THE GOLF TROOP STOREMAN BUT QUICKLY BECAME A RADIO RELAY DETACHMENT COMMANDER. HE LATER DOUBLE-HATTED AS TECH CONTROLLER AND NODE SUPERVISOR. PROMOTED TO MASTER CORPORAL DURING HIS TOUR TO RWANDA IN 1994 FOLLOWED BY TOURS TO UGANDA IN 1996 AND THE GOLAN HEIGHTS IN 1998.

5. GARY WAS THEN POSTED TO 79 COMMUNICATIONS REGIMENT IN 1999 WHERE HE GAINED HIS NATIONAL COMMAND AND CONTROL INFORMATION SYSTEMS (NCCIS) QUALIFICATION WHICH HE QUICKLY USED ON HIS DEPLOYMENT TO CLOSE DOWN THE MISSION IN THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC. 1CDHSR AND 79 COMM REGT BECAME THE CANADIAN FORCES JOINT SIGNALS REGIMENT (CFJSR) IN 2000 AND GARY REMAINED WITHIN GOLF TP AND LATER, REGIMENTAL TRAINING.

6. PROMOTED TO SERGEANT IN 2003 AND GIVEN THE LEAD OF ALPHA TROOP RADIO SECTION HEADING TO ACTIVATE CAMP JULIEN IN KABUL, AFGHANISTAN. MWO JACKLIN DEPLOYED ON OPERATION ATHENA AGAIN IN 2006/07 BUT TO CAMP MIRAGE LEADING THE MT DET. UPON RETURN HE ASSUMED THE POSITION OF THE CFJSR ASSISTANT REGIMENTAL INFORMATION SYSTEM SECURITY OFFICER (“RISO”) WHERE HE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRAVEL TO NEW ZEALAND FOR A SHORT EXCHANGE.

7. PROMOTED TO WARRANT OFFICER IN 2009 AND POSTED TO 2 CANADIAN MECHANIZED BRIGADE GROUP HEADQUARTERS AND SIGNALS SQUADRON AS THE COMMUNICATION INFORMATION SYSTEM TROOP WARRANT OFFICER (CIS TP WO) IN PREPARATION FOR NEAR YEAR LONG DEPLOYMENT TO AFGHANISTAN IN 2010/11 WITH TASK FORCE HEADQUARTERS ROTATION 5-10.

8. ON RETURN FROM AFGHANISTAN, HE WAS ONCE AGAIN POSTED BACK TO KINGSTON TO THE CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS AS THE 2 SQUADRON DELTA TROOP WO MANAGING THE NEW ACISS TRADES TRAINING.

9. PROMOTED TO MASTER WARRANT OFFICER IN 2015 AND POSTED TO CANADIAN FORCES JOINT OPERATION SUPPORT GROUP HEADQUARTERS AS THE CHIEF COMMUNICATION OFFICER, MWO JACKLIN GAINED OPPORTUNITIES TO TRAVEL TO WAINWRIGHT, ERBIL IRAQ AND RANKIN INLET AS CAMP SERGEANT MAJOR.

10. GARY AND HIS WIFE TINA WILL BE REMAINING IN THE KINGSTON AREA WHERE GARY WILL BE BUSY TAKING CARE OF PERSONALIZING THEIR NEW HOUSE AND PERHAPS SPENDING SOME TIME ON HIS MOTORCYCLE ENJOYING THE TWISTY BACK ROADS.

11. A DEPART WITH DIGNITY RETIREMENT FUNCTION WILL BE HELD IN GARY’S HONOUR AT THE ARMY NAVY AIR FORCE CLUB (ANAF) ON GORE ROAD IN KINGSTON, 21 JUNE 19, COMMENCING AT NOON.

Congratulations Gary! It was a pleasure to have worked with you all those years ago in G Tp. I always thought you would do well and you have. I’m sure you’ll do equally as well on civvy street. These is life after the military but as the advertisement goes, “there is no life like it”. You’ll always be a soldier. That’s something that will never leave you. Enjoy it now.
