1. AFTER MORE THAN 20 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE, SERGEANT JOHNNY BANGS WILL RETIRE FROM THE RCAF ON 30 APRIL 2020.

2. SGT BANGS ENROLLED IN THE CAF IN JULY 2000 AS AN INFANTRYMAN WITH THE 1ST BATTALION OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN REGIMENT, WHERE HE WAS TRAINED AS A BOTH A LAV III DRIVER AND ASSAULT PIONEER. HE COMPLETED OP PALLADIUM IN BOSNIA, BEFORE CHANGING TRADES TO ATIS TECH IN APRIL 2005 AFTER THE BIRTH OF HIS DAUGHTER. FOLLOWING HIS QL3 TRAINING, HE WAS POSTED TO CFB ESQUIMALT WHERE HE FOCUSSED ON COMMUNICATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE AND DEPLOYED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS IN SUPPORT OF OP PODIUM AND OP ATHENA. IN 2010, HE WAS POSTED TO 22WG NORTH BAY WHERE HE HELPED SUSTAIN SECURE TELECOMMUNICATIONS FOR NORAD. SGT BANGS’ CAREER THEN BROUGHT HIM TO 8WG TRENTON IN 2014 UNTIL PRESENT, WHERE HE MANAGED DESKTOP SUPPORT, AIRFIELD MAINTENANCE, HF RADIO MAINTENANCE, AND DEPLOYED ON OP IMPACT. HE TRANSFERRED FROM 8 TELECOM FLT TO 8 ACCS IN 2018, WHERE HE SERVED IN HIS FINAL ROLE OF TACTICAL COMMUNICATIONS SUPERVISOR AND DEPLOYED ON OP REASSURANCE.

3. JOHNNY, HIS SPOUSE ALEESHA, AND THEIR CHILDREN LOGAN AND LILY ARE PLANNING TO SETTLE IN THE OTTAWA VALLEY NEAR WHERE ALEESHA’S FAMILY LIVES. JOHNNY IS CURRENTLY PURSUING A BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND HOPES TO SPECIALIZE IN PENETRATION TESTING.
