1. ON BEHALF OF THE DIRECTOR OF JOINT COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO ANNOUNCE THE RETIREMENT OF WO WINSTON HEWLIN, CD2 ON THE 20TH OF NOVEMBER 2018, AFTER 33 PLUS YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES, THE INFANTRY CORPS, THE ROYAL CANADIAN CORPS OF SIGNALS AND MOST NOTABLY THE LINE TRADE.

2. WINSTON ENROLLED AS AN INFANTRYMAN AT CFRC CORNER BROOK, NEWFOUNDLAND IN 1985. HE THEN COMPLETED BATTLE SCHOOL TRAINING AND WAS POSTED TO THE 2nd BN, ROYAL CANADIAN REGIMENT SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. IN 1988, HE WAS POSTED TO THE 3 COMMANDO, CANADIAN AIRBORNE REGIMENT. IN 1990 DECIDED TO TAKE THE “EUROPEAN VACATION” AND WAS POSTED TO CFE, 3rd BN, ROYAL CANADIAN REGIMENT, AND CFB BADEN. IN 1993, STILL A JUMPER, HE WAS POSTED TO THE QUEENS OWN RIFLES OF CANADIAN IN TORONTO WHERE HE MET HIS WIFE CHARLENE.

3. ALWAYS ENJOYING COMMUNICATIONS, WINSTON DECIDED TO REMUSTER TO THE LINE TRADE IN 1999. HIS FIRST POSTING AS A LINEMAN WAS TO 79 COMMUNICATION REGIMENT IN KINGSTON. REMAINING IN KINGSTON, WAS POSTED TO THE CANADAIN FORCES SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS IN 2005, BOTH AS AN INSTRUCTOR AND IN STANDARDS. IN 2009 HE TOOK A QUICK STINT OUT OF TRADE WITH CANADIAN SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCES COMMAND, CANADIAN JOINT RESPONSE UNIT IN TRENTON WHERE HE FINED TUNED HIS GAS HUT SKILLS. ENJOYING CFJSR TOO MUCH HE THEN WAS POSTED TO DETACHMENT EDMONTON IN 2010 AND BACK TO KINGSTON IN 2013. FINDING HIS WORK PASSION, IN 2015 WINSTON WAS POSTED TO WHAT IS NOW KNOWN AS DJCIS OR DIRECTORATE OF JOINT COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATIONS SYSTEMS (FORMALLY DTES, DIMTPS, DJSCS, DSTRATCS, DC4IFD) AND WAS POSTED TO THE STRATEGIC TOWERS, ANTENNAS AND CABLE LCMM TEAM. 4. WO HEWLIN HAS COMPLETED MULTIPLE POSTINGS, TOURS AND THEATRE ACTIVATION/ASISTANCE VISITS DURING HIS 33, PLUS YEAR CAREER. HE WAS IN GERMANY IN THE EARLY 1990’S, THE GULF IN 1990, BOSNIA IN 1992, GOLAN HEIGHTS IN 2001 AND AFGHANISTAN IN 2003.

5. WINSTON AND HIS WIFE CHARLENE HAVE DECIDED TO REMAIN IN THE KINGSTON AREA. WINSTON HAS BEEN OFFERED A CIVILIAN POSITION WITH VALCOM IN WHICH HE’LL START WORKING ON THE 20TH OF AUG AT THE DJCIS MMF. IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE WORKING ON HIS PASSION OF THE ANTENNA FIELD WHILE CONTINUING TO SUPPORT THE WORK OF THE LINE TRADE AND THE LARGER CAF. ADDITIONALLY WINSTON WILL TRANSFER TO THE PRIMARY RESERVE (214 SQN) WHERE HE WILL CONTINUE TO EDUCATE THE NEXT GENERATION.

6. TO ACKNOWLEDGE HIS MILITARY CAREER AND TO WISH HIM WELL, AN INFORMAL, SIT DOWN, LUNCHEON WILL BE HELD AT THE ANAF, KINGSTON, DETAILS TO FOLLOW AT A LATER DATE.
