It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our father, William D. Meek (Bill) on Friday, October 4, 2024, while he was enjoying a bus tour in Northern Ontario. Born December 10, 1941, in St. Thomas Ontario, our dad grew up in Southern Ontario, mainly in Harrow, until he joined the military in his late teens. Our Dad served 37 years with the Canadian Armed Forces Signal Corp, where he started as a Private and retiring a Major in 1995.
In his early years, while posted in Soest, Germany, and while on leave, he met the love of his life in Nijmegen, Netherlands, our beautiful mother, Johanna (Anita) Jacobs, where two years later they married just shy of his 21st birthday, requiring approval from his CO. Our parents were married for a loving 58 years and enjoyed many adventures across the globe, whether it was due to being posted, or just enjoying their retirement camping around North America, until our mother’s passing in 2020.
Dad will be remembered lovingly by us, his children, Donald Meek (Lynne), Carol Meek (Shane), Kimberly Roy (Marc), and by his grandchildren, Nicole Cartmill (Jon), Brayden Roy (Ella), Mathew Meek (Lisa), Andrew Meek (Kirsten), and Alexxa Roy (Kyle) and his great-granddaughter, Rose.
Family will be receiving friends at Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Home Township Chapel, 435 Davis Drive, on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm to help us celebrate both of our parents as they are joined together for eternity. A private family interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the UHKF.
