MWO Vitor Vieira is originally from Mira D’Aire, Portugal, moving to Canada 1974 with his family. He enrolled in the Communication Reserves in 1988 as a Radio Teletype Operator with 735 (Winnipeg) Comm Reg. He attended Red River Community College completing his Diploma in Electronic Engineering Technology. In 1990 he was employed as a full time reservist at 73 Comm Gp HQ (Winnipeg), as the Communication Reserve Management information Systems Operator (CRMISOP), and was the Unit Computer SME. He took a Voluntary Occupation Transfer (VOT) to Vehicle Tech in 1996, and was employed at 735 (Winnipeg) Comm Regt, as the unit Vehicle Tech.
In 2001, MCpl Vieira was employed as a Radio Operator supporting 2 PPCLI, providing upgrade training for communication systems. In 2003, he completed a Component transfer (CT) to the Regular Force, deploying immediately to Bosnia-Herzegovina with 2 PPCLI Battle Group (BG) as the Radio Operator.
In 2004, he moved to CFB Shilo with 2 PPCLI, completing a tour to Afghanistan as the BG Command Post Sargent in 2008.
In 2009, Master Corporal (MCpl) Vieira was posted to 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters & Signals Squadron (1 CMBG HQ & Sig Sqn), Edmonton as the Helpdesk Section Commander, getting Networks ready for the Olympics.
In 2011, Sargent (Sgt) Vieira deployed to Afghanistan with the Mission Transition Task Force (MTTF) to close out the Canadian Mission.
In 2016 was promoted to Warrant Officer and posted CFS Leitrim, Ottawa to Canadian Forces Network Operation Center (CFNOC), as the Recce and Forensics Troop Warrant Officer.
In 2018 he was posted to 1 CMBGHQ & Sig Sqn as the Military Employment Specialist (MES) Coordinator till 2019 when he was reassigned to the Unit Operations Warrant Officer (Ops WO). Then back as the MES Coordinator in late 2020 to complete the Transformation of the trades.
In 2021 he was promoted to MWO with a moved to 1 CMBG HQ – G6 FIS. Followed by a posting to 3 Cdn Div Hq in Apr 2022 as the Div G6 FIS. He will retire on 01 Apr 2025 with 35+ yrs. of military service.
Since 2011, he has been a volunteer with Kilkenny Community League as the Vice President –Administration and assisting with ice making for the Outdoor rink (ODR) to keep him occupied.
When not at the Community league, you can find him supporting other organizations Lac Ste Anne Quad Club and Alberta Beach Snowmobile Association that is when he is not riding his Snowmobile or Quad.
He has been married to Diana for 33 years and the proud father of two children, Ellicia and Andrew as well as a grandfather to 3 girls.
