MAJOR (RET) ÉRIC THOMASSIN-LACROIX

Major Éric Thomassin-Lacroix, M.Sc., MBA, was born in Quebec City on August 17, 1973. He enlisted with the 713 Communications Regiment (Beauport) as a reservist in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) on June 17, 1991, as a private and radio operator.

In the spring of 1993, he requested a transfer as an officer and began training under the Reserve Integration Program – Officer (PIRO). He then participated in the Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers (CIOR) military pentathlon competition and represented Canada in Rome, Italy, in the summer of 1995 and in Lillehammer, Norway, in the summer of 1996. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Université Laval that same year and completed his training as a Signals Officer.

In January 1998, he began his master’s degree in Environmental Science at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston. He transferred from 713 Comm Rd to the Reserve Electronic Warfare Squadron (Res EW Sqn), where he served as a training officer. He was promoted to the rank of captain in September 1998 and left for Vancouver to pursue his master’s degree at the University of British Columbia. While in Vancouver, he was posted on temporary duty to 744 Communications Regiment (Vancouver), where he served as an operations officer.

In September 2000, he returned to his home unit, the Reserve Electronic Warfare Squadron, where he was assigned as an officer with the electronic warfare troop.

In January 2001, he participated in the Young Reserve Officers Conference at the École militaire de Paris. In June of the same year, he returned to France, to Rennes to be precise, where he participated in a NATO intermediate electronic warfare course taught by the French Army.

In October 2001, he returned to the 713 Communications Regiment (Beauport) where he served as Commanding Officer of the Communications Squadron. In September 2002, he was appointed Deputy Commanding Officer of the Regiment. In September 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Major and assumed command of the unit.

During his command, he supported collective training within the 35th Canadian Brigade Group (CBG), individual training, and organized numerous Commanding Officer Challenges. In 2007, he became Deputy Commanding Officer of the 71 Communications Group in Montreal.

In 2010, he completed Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) operator training. After several years on the Supplementary Reserve, he released from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in July 2016. In 2017, he completed an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) at Laval University. He served from 2011 to 2024 as Aide-de-Camp to the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec. Major Thomassin-Lacroix was a project manager at Environmental Sciences Group, Kingston, ON / Vancouver, BC, from 1998 to 2001. Returning to Quebec City from 2001 to 2005, he was a project manager at Biogénie. He then obtained a position as Project Director for the Quebec government at the Société de protection des forêts contre les insectes et maladies (SOPFIM) from 2005 to 2009. In 2009, Éric became Service Director at Englobe, and in 2017, he was appointed Senior Director for Eastern Quebec for SNC-Lavalin. In 2020, he worked at Wikinet and NVIRA, and in 2022, he was General Manager at SPOPFIM until March 2025.

Éric passed away on March 21, 2025, in Quebec City following a battle with cancer.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his children: Félix-Antoine, Anabelle, and Charles; his sisters: Marie-Claude (Daniel), Johanne (Yvan), Danielle (Daniel), and Nathalie (late Jacques); his twin brother Hugo (Marie); the mother of his children, Marie-Chantal; his nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles, aunts, friends, and colleagues from his civilian and military careers.
