After an illustrious career spanning 35+ years, MWO Simpson will retire from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) on 03 March 2025. MWO Simpson enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces on January 5, 1989, as an Artilleryman. He completed basic training at Canadian Forces Recruit School Cornwallis (CFRS) before attending the Royal Canadian Artillery Battle School at CFB Shilo, MB. In the fall of 1989, he was posted to the 2nd Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (2 RCHA) at CFB Petawawa, ON. During his time with 2 RCHA, he completed numerous courses, including Artillery Communications, Driver Wheeled, Basic Artillery Survey, Basic Parachutist, Gun Detachment 2IC, and the Combat Leadership Course. While serving in 2 RCHA, MWO Simpson completed two operational tours: a UN mission in Cyprus in 1993, where he was part of the last Canadian unit before the sector was handed over to the British, and a deployment to the former Republic of Yugoslavia from 1994 to 1995, where he served as a Mortar Detachment Commander. In 1996, MWO Simpson transitioned to a new trade, attending the Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics (CFSCE) in Kingston, ON, to qualify as a Lineman (052).
