Captain (retired) Melvin Dale Evenson passed away on 19 August 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Christine Clare (Foley), his daughter Clare (L.P. Trottier), son Cameron (Marta Lopez), and proud Grampy of Oliver (Stephen Kirby, father of Oliver). He will be greatly missed by his sisters Carol (Lawrence), Ellen (Norman), brother Rudy, several nieces and nephews, as well as his furry companions Lily and Milly. Mel was preceded by his parents Margaret Jean Antonchuk and Oscar Evenson, as well as sisters Wanda and Donna.
Mel completed 20 years military service including graduating from RMC in Kingston, settling in Ottawa after several postings across Canada. He was very active coaching his children’s sports teams. After retirement he was employed at Valcom for 7 years, followed by 16 years at CMCC Consulting. Mel will be greatly missed for his wealth of knowledge and love of music. His positive attitude during all of his health struggles gave us strength. A special thanks to the nurses, RT’s, and doctors at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. May he Rest in Peace. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
