Stephen Ross Hartlen (Ret’d)

HARTLEN, Stephen Ross age 59, of Mount Uniacke passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in the QEII, VG Site. Stephen was a son of the late Lorna and Frank Hartlen. After graduating from NSIT, he began his career as a Communication Technician in the Canadian Armed Forces. His 31 year career included postings in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, British Columbia, and Germany. After retirement, he began at CFAD Bedford as an Electronic Systems Technician with the Public Service. During his time with the Public Service he received the Canadian Forces Medallion for Distinguished Service in 2009 for saving a colleague’s life. He was an active member of the community working with Scouts Canada, the Uniacke School Advisory Committee, the Uniacke Library and Legion Branch 165. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, love of life, and always being there for anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 29 years, Marie Horder-Hartlen; loving sons, Devon and Thomas; dear siblings, Michael (Charlene), Janette (Donald) Kearns, Denise (Douglas) Brown, and Margaret Hartlen; life-long friend Carol Irvine; many nieces, nephews and extended family. A special thank you to the staff of 6A and the thoracic surgery team at the VG for their care and compassion. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 20 at 2 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr. followed by a reception in the Mount Uniacke Legion. Family flowers only please.
