Bill passed away peacefully and without pain in his sleep at home, as was his wish. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Cell Cancer in December 2021. He would tell you he lived a good life; Others would say he lived it to the fullest. (for original obituary, see:

He was the son of CWO Ernie Nye and Mary Louise Pattison Nye: His early years in Kingston and Ottawa and High School in Ladner, BC. After receiving his commission in 1963, he served with the RCSigs/CELE in Gagetown, where he met and married Elizabeth; Kingston; Ottawa; Oakville; Esquimalt and in Alert as CO; peacekeeping duties in Cyprus, Egypt and the Golan Heights; and with NATO in SHAPE.

After his retirement in 1995, he pursued his many hobbies: hockey; hunting and fishing; gardening; fly fishing; fly tying; training and hunting with his 3 Shorthairs and 2 Munsterlanders; playing Euchre; and travelling with Elizabeth to warm places in the winter months including Kenya and New Zealand. His favourite was the South Island. In the summer, he enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Nova Scotia.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister Audrey, and survived by Elizabeth, Kathryn, Catherine, David, Jenn and two grandsons, Jason and Quinn; his brother

Don and his wife Wendy; brother Gordon and wife Jennifer; sister Nancy; and cousin and good friend Bob.

Cremation and a private funeral have taken place. He was a good man and he will be missed.
