Michael Hugh Quann CD, Major (Ret’d)
It is with heavy hearts we inform you of the death of a true family man, a friend and a colleague Michael Hugh Quann CD, Major (Ret’d).
Mike passed away far too soon on April 3, 2023 peacefully with Jan and Taylar by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mike faced death and his mortality, as he did with life, face on bravely fighting to the end. He loved his family first and foremost, his outdoors; hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, hockey, and his friends. There was no better time to be had than Mike cooking up a far too big of a meal and sitting around sharing stories.
As Mike often said he joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a boy soldier in 1979. Working his way through the Signal Corps he attained the rank of CWO and ultimately retired as a Major after 35 years of loyal service to Canada. He was deployed to Afghanistan on two missions; August to November 2005 and January to November 2009. Mike retired from the CAF in 2014 and joined the Alberta Government as the Director of Operations, Maintenance and Sustainment with the Alberta First Responders Radio Communications System. Once again, Mike dedicated his expertise and time to develop a world class system for the protection and safety of Albertans and the Alberta First Responders.
Mike’s life revolved around the loves of his life, Jan and Taylar. As a family they did everything together in the great outdoors. He was especially proud of Jan’s accomplishments in life and work and of Taylar’s path embarking on a career as a nurse in the service of others as he did himself.
A funeral liturgy will be held on Thursday, April 13 at 2:00 PM in Connelly-McKinley, St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike’s memory may be made to: The Valour Place.
Jan, Taylar, family and friends would like to thank all the Health Care Professionals who assisted in easing Mike’s journey. A special note of sincere thanks to Dr. Ron Anderson, a consummate professional and gentleman who provided the very best health care over these past two and a half years.
Arrangements entrusted to: Connelly-Mckinley St. Albert Funeral Home
