It is with great sadness for 4 Wing Cold Lake to announce the loss of a long time member of our community. Mr John Smith passed away peacefully on September 3, 2017 at the Cold Lake Hospital after a courageous battle with Cancer.

Born in Cold Lake, John Smith joined the Canadian Military in 1977 as a Radio Technician (221). He served the CAF at various locations including Newport Corner, CFS Debert, 8 Wing Trenton, 5 Wing Goose Bay, 4 Wing Cold Lake and a tour at CFS Alert.

John and his family returned to CFB Cold Lake in 2000 where he was a member of W TIS and 42 Radar Squadron until his retirement in May 2007 at the rank of MWO. John joined the PSP Team in October 2015 as an Arena Operator.

John Smith was presented the Order of Military Merit by the Governor General in 2005 and received the Alberta Centennial Medal in 2006.

John was a highly valuable and respected member of this community. He was known as kind, honest and as a man of great honor and strength.
