MIKE CHAWRUN:  16 March 1940 – 3 June 2020

On June 3, 2020, the Blue Jays lost one of their biggest fans, and the Maple Leafs, on a good day. Mike died peacefully at home where he wanted to be with his loving wife Christine and animals, Gigi (dog) and Lily (cat). Mike loved to rescue animals, our neighbourhood has met them all.

He is survived by his wife, Christine; his children, Paul (Kathy); Alieda; Kathy (Gregg); his grandchildren Isabella and Luke; Paul, Kristina and Joseph; Thomas and Nicholas; and his niece Sharie and daughter Clarise.

Mike was born in 1940 in Cold Lake, Alberta. In 1963, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and, upon his retirement in 1989, he worked as an IT Security consultant for Communications Security Establishment (CSE), serving his country proudly for 42 years. In 1983, Mike received his BA from Queens while still working, which he was very proud of.

Mike loved to play golf, especially when he retired, but he had a passion for making “proper” wood furniture. We have all benefited by his passion for woodworking and we will have these treasures to remind us of him forever. We miss you.

There will be a Tree Dedication for the family at Beechwood National Military Cemetery, Ottawa in the fall.

Family would like to thank all the staff and doctors on the Geriatric Medical Unit at the Civic Hospital, especially Dr Power and Dr Casey; the RPCT – Palliative Care group; Bayshore Home Care Solutions, especially Janet, Veterans Affairs and Dr. Stuart Macleod.
