David James (Dave) COMBE, 17 April 1940 – 19 December 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David James Combe on December 19, 2019 at Providence Care Hospital in his 79th year after losing his battle with cancer.

Born in Welland, Ontario, youngest child of William and Ann Combe of Liverpool, England, Dave joined the military when he was sixteen, and upon his retirement divided between the Canadian Armed Forces and Corrections Canada. Dave was a Soldier Apprentice, RC Sigs, 5th Intake 56-58.

During his final years, he was enjoying retirement, enjoying fishing in the summer and cheering on the Kingston Frontenac’s in the winter.

Dave is survived by sister Evelyn Fox of Welland, Ontario and predeceased by sister Nell and brother Bill. Survived by girlfriend Faye, first wife Jean, predeceased by second wife Vera. Also survived by children Chris, Jeff, Dennis, Michele, Steven, stepchildren Chet and Tracey. Many grandchildren: Alex, Rebecca, Tommy, Lindsay, Mitchell, Robyn, Nicole, Jessica, Ben, D.J., Shyann and Ryder. A father, son, grandpa, husband, friend, soldier, prison guard, brother, hockey and baseball coach, figure skating president, comedian, obsessed Maple Leaf Fan and a person that will be missed by all that knew him. Heaven is filled with a little more laughter, now that Dave has a new audience to try his best jokes on.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 631 in Collins Bay on Saturday, 25 January 2020 between the hours of 1pm and 4pm. All are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served. Dave will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens on Friday, 24 January 2020.

Many thanks from family to the doctors, nurses and staff at Kingston General Hospital and Providence Care Hospital for their treatment and care during Dave’s illness.
