80th Anniversary D-Day

On 6 June 1944, Allied troops invaded Western Europe Beaches along an 80-kilometre front in Normandy, France. Of the nearly 150,000 troops who landed, 14,000 were Canadians. They assaulted a beach code-named ‘Juno’ while Canadian paratroopers landed just east of the assault beaches. The Canadians suffered the most casualties of any division in the 21st Army Group. Canadians had 1074 casualties including 359 killed four of whom were members of The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and a Wireless Air Gunner from the RCAF.
