RETIREMENT – MASTER WARRANT OFFICER DAVID L. STOREY, CD – 00383-01, SIG OP

Retirement Date: April 1, 2025

1. AFTER 33 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE IN THE RESERVES AND REGULAR FORCE MWO DAVID STOREY WILL BE RETIRING FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 01 APRIL 2025.

2. MWO STOREY ENROLLED IN THE CAF IN OCTOBER OF 1984 WHEN HE JOINED AS RESERVIST UNDER THE YOUTH TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (YTEP). AFTER COMPLETING BASIC TRAINING IN CORNWALLIS NS, HE PROCEEDED TO CFSCE KINGSTON FOR HIS QL3 TELETYPE OPERATOR COURSE. DUE TO HIS STELLAR PERFORMANCE GRADUATING SECOND OF HIS CLASS, HE WAS OFFERED THE SINGULAR POSTING PREFERENCE OF OTTAWA WHERE HE TRANSFERRED TO THE REGULAR FORCE AND WORKED WITH 764 COMMUNICATIONS SQUADRON AT NDHQ. MWO STOREY WAS THEN POSTED TO THE SPECIAL SERVICE FORCES IN PETAWAWA IN 1989. WHILE THERE, HE GRADUATED AS TOP STUDENT FROM THE THIRTEEN-WEEK COMBAT LEADERSHIP COURSE AT THE RCR BATTLE SCHOOL.

3. IN 1993, MWO STOREY WAS AWARDED THE “TOP CPL IN THE SSF” AWARD AND POSTED TO 733 COMMUNICATIONS SQUADRON IN WINNIPEG WHERE HE WAS PROMOTED TO MCPL. HE WAS QUICKLY APPOINTED AS THE SECTION COMMANDER OF A NEW NETWORKING SECTION WHERE HE REMAINED UNTIL 1997 WHEN HE TRANSFERRED TO THE SUPPLEMENTARY RESERVES.

4. IN 2004, MWO STOREY REJOINED THE CAF AS A CLASS A SIG OP RESERVIST, SERVING AS A TROOP SGT/WO FOR 4 YEARS AT 735 COMM REGT. HE THEN MOVED FROM 735 COMM REGT TO 38 CBG G6 CELL AS A SGT IN AN IT POSITION WHILE ALSO TAKING ON THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF BRIGADE COMSEC CUSTODIAN, CHIEF COMM OP, AND G6 OPERATIONS. PROMOTED TO WO IN 2014, HE CONTINUED WORKING WITH THE BRIGADE UNTIL APRIL 2017 WHERE HE WAS HIRED INTO HIS CURRENT POSITION AS FORMATION COMSEC AUTHORITY IN 1 CAD HQ A6. MWO STOREY WAS PROMOTED TO MWO ON 1 JAN 2019 AND REMAINED IN HIS CURRENT POSITION UNTIL THIS DAY. NOT ONLY DID HE EXCEL IN EVERY ROLE HE HELD BUT HE MADE A LASTING DIFFERENCE AND HIS DEDICATION TO TRAINING AND MENTORING OTHERS HAS LEFT A LEGACY THAT WILL BE FELT FOR YEARS TO COME. HE HAS INSPIRED SO MANY PEOPLE WITH HIS UNWAVERING SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE.

5. MWO STOREY IS EXTREMELY GRATEFUL TO HIS FAMILY; SPOUSE JUNE, SONS MARK AND WILLIAM, AND DAUGHTER ELIZABETH FOR THEIR CONTINUOUS SUPPORT. MWO STOREY WILL REMAIN IN THE WINNIPEG AREA WITH HIS FAMILY AND PURSUE EMPLOYMENT VENTURES WITH THE PROVINCIAL EMERGENCY MEASURES OFFICE AND AS A NOMINATED CANDIDATE OF INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR ON THE TOASTMASTERS INTERNATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS ALL WHILE CONTINUING TO ENJOY GOLF.

6. A DEPART WITH DIGNITY CEREMONY WILL BE HELD ON 27 MARCH 2025, 12:00 TO 16:00 AT BOSTON PIZZA (2517 PORTAGE AVE, WINNIPEG, MB R3J 0P1). All the best in your retirement. I will long riminess of all the good times working together over the years from our first time working at SERE on through floor hockey Wednesdays and of course all the long days planning and prepping for the numerous Brigade exercises. Thanks for your help and support over the years

Dave, prior to your posting to 1 Cdn Air Div A6, there was an old adage at Air Command DCOS TIS, “When all else fails, go for coffee.” And perhaps you added to that, “It’s time to go to the golf course.”
