The Second World War letters of New Brunswick-born RCAF F/Sgt. Weldon “Fred” MacMurray, who was a prisoner of war in Germany for nearly four years, will be the focus of a fascinating presentation by Phil Robichaud and David Underhill at the upcoming Coffee Break for Veterans at the NB Military History Museum in Oromocto.

This FREE event takes place at the NB Military History Museum on Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 10 am to 12 pm. All veterans, serving members, their families and friends are welcome to attend. Light refreshments and sweets will be served.

Fred MacMurray was a 21-year-old pilot based with the RCAF in Britain when his plane was shot down over Holland in November 1941. His story is told in the letters back home to family in Moncton, as well as in his Wartime Log, a diary that was distributed to POWs in Europe by the Swiss YMCA War Aid.  The diary is filled with his detailed reflections on captivity, beautifully illustrated drawings, rare documents, photographs and many references to fellow prisoners, several of whom were from New Brunswick.

The NB Military History Museum is located at 119 Walnut Street, Bldg. A-5, 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown in Oromocto, NB. The Museum is open to the public from 10 am to 4 pm daily and admission is FREE.
