1. CAPTAIN M. BYRNE WILL BE RETIRING FROM THE CAF ON 12 JUNE 2018 WITH 37 YEARS 9 MONTHS OF
LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE.

2. CAPTAIN M. BYRNE ENROLLED IN THE CANADIAN FORCES AS A RADIO OPERATOR IN 1980.
ON COMPLETION OF TRADE TRAINING, HE SERVED AT VARIOUS POSITIONS FROM 1981 TO 1994
AT 1 CANADIAN SIGNAL REGIMENT (1 CSR), KINGSTON, MILITARY AERONAUTICAL
COMMUNICATION SQUADRON (MACS) ST JOHNS, AIRBORNE HEADQUARTER AND SIGNAL SQUADRON
(AHSS), PETAWAWA INCLUDING A DEPLOYMENT TO CYPRUS AND 1 CANADIAN DIVISION
HEADQUARTERS AND SIGNAL REGIMENT (1 CDHSR).

3. IN AUG 1994, HE WAS PROMOTED TO THE RANK OF SGT AND DEPLOYED TO CROATIA AS THE
COMMUNICATION SUPERVISOR IN THE NATIONAL COMMAND AND CONTROL COMMUNICATIONS
INFORMATION SYSTEM (NCCIS) DETACHMENT. IN FEBRUARY 1995, SGT BYRNE WAS POSTED
BACK TO 1 CDHSR AND EMPLOYED AS A TROOP WARRANT AND OPERATIONS WARRANT. HE WAS
PROMOTED TO WARRANT OFFICER IN OCTOBER 1999 AND POSTED TO HEADQUARTERS AND SIGNAL
SQUADRON IN EDMONTON AS TROOP WARRANT AND MOVED TO OPERATION WARRANT IN JANUARY
2000.

4. IN JULY 2001, HE WAS PROMOTED TO MASTER WARRANT OFFICER AND WAS POSTED TO
CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION AND ELECTRONICS (CFSCE) AS SERGEANT MAJOR
OF ALPHA SQUADRON, TRAINING SIGNAL AND CELE AIR OFFICERS. IN JULY 2003, MWO BYRNE
WAS POSTED TO THE CANADIAN FORCES JOINT SIGNAL REGIMENT (CFJSR) AS THE SERGEANT
MAJOR OF 1 SQUADRON WHICH PROVIDED TAT, DART AND DIV LEVEL SIGNAL SP. HE DEPLOYED
TO HAITI AS THE ACTIVATION TEAM SIGNAL SQUADRON SERGEANT MAJOR IN JUNE 2004. IN
JUNE 2005, HE WAS PROMOTED TO CWO AND DEPLOYED TO KANDAHAR AS THE ACTIVATION TEAM
SIGNAL SQUADRON SERGEANT MAJOR. ON RETURN FROM KANDAHAR IN AUG 2005, CWO BYRNE WAS
POSTED TO CANADIAN FORCES CRYPTO SUPPORT UNIT (CFCSU) AS THE UNIT CWO AND DND
CHIEF COMSEC INSPECTOR. IN SEPTEMBER 2008, HE WAS POSTED TO DIRECTOR LAND COMMAND
AND INFORMATION AS G6 OPS 2.

5. IN NOVEMBER 2008, CWO BYRNE WAS COMMISSIONED AND PROMOTED TO HIS PRESENT RANK
CAPT BYRNE WAS POSTED TO CFSCE WHERE HE FILLED POSITONS AS CFSCE OPERATION OFFICER
AND SQUADRON SECOND IN COMMAND IN JUNE 2009. IN JULY 2013, CAPT BYRNE WAS POSTED
TO 21 ELECTRONIC WARFARE REGIMENT (21 EW REGT) INITIALLY AS SECOND IN COMMAND OF
214 RESERVE SQUADRON AND THEN THE ADJUTANT FROM APRIL 2014 TO JULY 2017. IN JULY
17, CAPT BYRNE WAS POSTED TO 76 COMMUNICATION REGIMENT (76 COMM REGT) DETACHMENT
KINGSTON AS SQUADRON SECOND IN COMMAND.

6. CAPTAIN M. BYRNE IS MARRIED TO (NAMES REMOVED 2023 APRIL 20 BY ADMIN)  OF LOURDES, NEWFOUNDLAND. THEY WILL REMAIN IN
KINGSTON WITH THEIR TWO DAUGHTERS: (NAMES REMOVED 2023 APRIL 20 BY ADMIN) WITH FIANCÉ (NAMES REMOVED 2023 APRIL 20 BY ADMIN).

7. A DWD CEREMONY WILL BE CONDUCTED WITH A MEAL PROVIDED AT THE WO AND SGTS MESS
1230 HRS FRIDAY 1 JUNE 18 AND ALL FRIENDS ARE WELCOME. THE COST IS 31 DOLLARS PER
PERSON AND DRESS IS CASUAL CIVILIAN ATTIRE OR DRESS OF THE DAY FOR MILITARY
PERSONNEL. THOSE WISHING TO ATTEND ARE REQUIRED TO RSVP VIA EMAIL TO . CAPT BYRNE REMAINS PROUD TO SERVE CANADA FOR 37 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS
OF SERVICE AND OF THE MANY FRIENDSHIPS THAT HE HAS MADE ALONG THE WAY.
