1. BRIGADIER GENERAL R. MAZZOLIN WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 8 JUN 18 AFTER 39 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA. HE CURRENTLY SERVES AS THE VICE DIRECTOR, PLANS AND POLICY, J5 AT UNITED STATES CYBER COMMAND IN FORT MEADE, MARYLAND.

2. ORIGINALLY FROM KINGSTON, ONTARIO, BGEN MAZZOLIN HAS SELFLESSLY DEVOTED HIMSELF TO THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES SINCE ENROLLING IN 1979. HE HAS HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO COMMAND CANADIAN FORCES STATION LEITRIM AND CANADIAN FORCES INFORMATION OPERATIONS GROUP AND HAS HELD KEY APPOINTMENTS AS DIRECTOR GENERAL INFORMATION MANAGEMENT OPERATIONS, DIRECTOR LAND COMMAND SYSTEMS PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT AND DIRECTOR INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SECURITY. THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER, HE HAS MADE A PROFOUND IMPACT IN THE AREAS OF COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS, SIGNALS INTELLIGENCE, NETWORK OPERATIONS AND ELECTRONIC WARFARE.

BGEN MAZZOLIN DEPLOYED TO SOMALIA, SERVING AS THE LIAISON OFFICER TO THE ITALIAN ARMY “FOLGORE” PARACHUTE BRIGADE AND AS OFFICER COMMANDING CANADIAN JOINT FORCE HEADQUARTERS AND SIGNAL SQUADRON SOMALIA. HE HAS SPENT CONSIDERABLE TIME REPRESENTING CANADA IN THE UNITED STATES, SERVING ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. BGEN MAZZOLIN HAS PURSUED A LIFELONG COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION, EARNING A BACHELORS DEGREE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, MASTER OF SCIENCE WITH SPECIALIZATION IN ELECTRONICS AND GUIDED WEAPON SYSTEMS, MASTER OF ARTS IN SECURITY AND DEFENCE MANAGEMENT AND POLICY, AND A DOCTORATE IN ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT. HIS NUMEROUS AWARDS INCLUDE THE ITALIAN GENERAL STAFF COMMENDATION FOR PROFESSIONALISM AND COURAGE DURING COMBAT ACTIONS IN SOMALIA, UNITED STATES MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL, AND IS AN OFFICER IN THE ORDER OF MILITARY MERIT.

4. BGEN MAZZOLIN WILL BE REMAINING IN THE OTTAWA/RICHMOND AREA WITH HIS WIFE . HE INTENDS TO TAKE SOME TIME OFF TO CATCH UP ON HIS HONEY-TO DO LIST AND WORK ON HIS MUSTANG BEFORE EMBARKING ON HIS SECOND CAREER, WHICH WILL UNDOUBTEDLY CONTINUE TO SERVE CANADIAN INTERESTS IN A SIGNIFICANT WAY.

5. A COMBINED DEPART WITH DIGNITY CEREMONY AND LUNCHEON FOR ALL RANKS, FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES WILL BE HELD TO HONOUR BOTH BGEN ROB MAZZOLIN’S AND MGEN GREG LOOS’ DISTINGUISHED CAREERS ON 8 JUNE 2018, STARTING AT 1200HRS, AT THE CFS LEITRIM MESS (3545 LEITRIM ROAD, OTTAWA). BGEN MAZZOLIN HAS SUGGESTED THAT HE WILL KEEP HIS COMMENTS BRIEF. A HOT BUFFET LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED AT A COST OF $20. BGEN MAZZOLIN HAS INDICATED THAT HE WOULD PREFER A DONATION TO THE MUSEUM OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS FOUNDATION IN KINGSTON RATHER THAN A GIFT.
