1. CAPT M. O’CALLAGHAN WILL BE RETIRING FROM THE CAF ON 17 APR 2019 AFTER MORE THEN 37 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA AND THE C & E BRANCH OF CAF.

2. BORN IN OTTAWA ONT BUT RAISED ACROSS CANADA, MIKE SOUGHT TO CONTINUE TRAVELLING, SO HE ENROLLED IN THE CAF AS AN ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN IN AUG 1981. AFTER COMPLETING POET AND RADAR TECHNICIAN TRAINING IN KINGSTON, HE BEGAN HIS CAREER AS A RADAR TECH WITH POSTINGS TO 42 RDR SQN COLD LAKE FOLLOWED BY MOVES TO 3 RCHA SHILO, 22 WING NORTH BAY AND 119 AD BATTERY GAGETOWN. IN 1996, DUE TO THE C & E BRANCH TECH TRADE RESTRUCTURING, MCPL O’CALLAGHAN BECAME AN LCIS TECHNICIAN AND CONTINUED WITH POSTINGS TO 4 AD REGT GAGETOWN, CFSCE AND CFJSR IN KINGSTON, DIMTPS OTTAWA, 2 ASG SIGS SQN GAGETOWN AND 21 EW REGT KINGSTON. WHILE AT 21 EW REGT, MWO O’CALLAGHAN WENT THROUGH HIS THIRD OCCUPATION CHANGE, BECOMING AN ACISS CISTM BEFORE ACCEPTING COMMISSIONING FROM THE RANKS INTO HIS FINAL OCCUPATION. POSTED AS A SIGS OFFICER AT JTF-X AND 1 WING HQ.

3. MIKE TRAVELLED THE WORLD EXTENSIVELY LIKE MOST C&E BRANCH PERSONNEL, THE MAJORITY OF COURSES WERE AT CFSCE BUT HE DID GET TO SPEND TIME IN FLORIDA ON THE ROCC COMPUTER COURSE. APART FROM THE TYPICAL ARMY PLAYGROUNDS OF WAINWRIGHT, SUFFIELD, SHILO, PETAWAWA, MEAFORD AND GAGETOWN; HE ALSO GOT TO VISIT THE TRAINING AREAS OF FORT BLISS AND FORT DRUM. HE PARTICIPATED IN OP PERSISTANCE AND OP RECUPERATION DOMESTICALLY, WAS PART OF A SIV ON OP PALADIUM, WAS PART OF THEATRE ACTIVATION FOR OP HALO AND CLOSED THE LAST NATIONAL REAR LINK IN BANJA LUKA. HIS GREATEST INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE WAS AS AN MWO AND EMPLOYED ON THE NATO TRAINING MISSION IN AFGHANISTAN. FOR 7 MONTHS, HE WORKED AS MENTOR TO QAHAR BAWARI, COMMAND SGT-MAJ OF THE AFGHAN UNIFORM POLICE AND GOT TO VISIT SOME REMOTE AND MORE PLEASANT PROVINCES OF THE COUNTRY.

4. AFTER TAKING A SHORT PERIOD OF LEAVE, MIKE INTENDS TO BEGIN WORKING AS A KAYAK GUIDE IN THE THOUSAND ISLANDS AND SPENDING TIME WITH HIS 4 GRAND-CHILDREN.
