1. CAPTAIN MAYLANYE FORTIN WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 19 SEPTEMBER 2021 AFTER 14 YEARS OF SERVICE.

2. MAYLANYE ENROLLED IN THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES RESERVE IN APRIL 2007 AS A SIGNALS OFFICER WITH 714 COMMUNICATION SQUADRON IN SHERBROOKE, QC. DURING HER TIME WITH THE RESERVE, SHE ATTENDED UNIVERSITY FULL-TIME UNTIL FALL 2009. IN APRIL 2010, FOLLOWING HER TRADES TRAINING AT THE CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS IN KINGSTON, SHE JOINED THE REGULAR FORCE. HER FIRST OFFICIAL POSTING WAS TO THE DIRECTORATE JOINT STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES, WHERE SHE SERVED AS A SATCOM PROJECT OFFICER FOR 2 YEARS. AFTER SERVING HER TIME IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION, SHE WAS TRANSFERRED TO CFB PETAWAWA WHERE SHE OCCUPIED POSITIONS WITHIN 2 CANADIAN MECHANIZED BRIGADE GROUP HEADQUARTERS AND SIGNAL SQUADRON, 2 COMBAT ENGINEER REGIMENT, AND 4 CANADIAN DIVISION SUPPORT GROUP SIGNAL SQUADRON. FOLLOWING HER 5 YEARS IN 2 CANADIAN MECHANIZED BRIGADE GROUP, SHE DECIDED TO SPECIALIZE IN CYBER OPERATIONS AND IN 2017 WAS POSTED TO THE CANADIAN FORCES NETWORK OPERATIONS CENTRE. HER FINAL POSTING IN 2019 WAS TO THE COMMUNICATION SECURITY ESTABLISHMENT WHERE SHE WAS EMPLOYED AS A NETWORK ANALYST.

3. MAYLANYE HAS PARTICIPATED IN MANY CYBER OPERATIONS AND EXERCISES, BOTH NATIONAL AND MULTINATIONAL AND CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CAF’S CYBER MISSION THROUGHOUT HER TIME AT CANADIAN FORCES NETWORK OPERATIONS CENTRE AND COMMUNICATION SECURITY ESTABLISHMENT.

4. MAYLANYE WILL BE REMAINING IN THE OTTAWA AREA WITH HER HUSBAND, MICHAEL, AND THEIR DAUGHTER ELEANOR. UPON RETIREMENT, SHE WILL TRANSITION TO THE PUBLIC SECTOR.
