1. CAPTAIN MICHAEL COADY WILL RETIRE FROM THE CAF ON 1 OCT 2020 AFTER A COMBINED 38 + YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE CAF, CANADIAN ARMY AND THE RCCS.

2. MIKE JOINED THE CAF THROUGH THE SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM IN THE SUMMER OF 1982 AT 744 COMM REGT VANCOUVER, AS AN RTOP. HE LATER TRANSFERRED TO 763 COMM REGT OTTAWA, WHERE HE COMPLETED A 6 MONTH CALL-OUT AT CFS CARP. IN AUGUST 1984 HE JOINED THE REGULAR FORCE AS A RADIO OPERATOR (MOC 211). AFTER COMPLETING DRIVER TRAINING IN BORDEN AND HIS INITIAL SIGNALS TRAINING ON THE FIRST AIRBORNE DESIGNATED SERIAL AT CFSCE, HE WAS POSTED TO THE CANADIAN AIRBORNE REGT. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY POSTINGS TO 3 PPCLI VICTORIA, 1 CMBG HQ & SIGS SQN CALGARY, THEN EDMONTON, LDSH(RC) EDMONTON, 79 COMM REGT KINGSTON, CFJSR KINGSTON, LDSH(RC) EDMONTON, 1 CMBG HQ & SIGS SQN EDMONTON, AND CFSCE KINGSTON. UPON BEING COMMISSIONED AS A SIGNALS OFFICER IN 2010, HE WAS POSTED TO LFDTS HQ KINGSTON, SSU (DET) KINGSTON AND FINALLY BACK TO CFSCE IN KINGSTON.

MIKE COMPLETED 7 OPERATIONAL DEPLOYMENTS DURING HIS CAREER: CYPRUS WITH THE CANADIAN AIRBORNE REGIMENT, GOLAN HEIGHTS WHILE POSTED WITH 3 PPCLI, CROATIA WITH 1 PPCLI, BOSNIA WITH 2 PPCLI, ETHIOPIA/ERITREA AND CAMP MIRAGE WHILE AT CFJSR, AND FINALLY AFGHANISTAN WITH 1 CMBG HQ & SIGS SQN.

DURING HIS TIME AS AN NCM HE WORKED IN TACTICAL RADIO, LAND TACTICAL AREA COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS AND MOBILE TRANSPORTABLE SATELLITE GROUND TERMINALS, AND SAW THE FIELDING OF TCCIS. MIKE WAS EMPLOYED AS A DISPATCH DRIVER, COMMANDO SIGNALLER, RRB DET COMD, BN COMD SIGNALLER, MCV DET COMD, BDE COMD SIGNALLER, NODE SUPERVISOR, MTSGT DET COMD, BG CP SGT, OPS SGT, CRYPTO CUSTODIAN, SIGNAL PL WO, SIGNALS TP WO AND A SQN SERGEANT-MAJOR.

AS A COMMISSIONED OFFICER, HE CARRIED OUT DUTIES AS A STAFF OFFICER AT DAT COLLECTIVE TRAINING, OC SSU (DET) KINGSTON AND FINALLY 2IC 3 SQN AT CFSCE.

3. MIKE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THOSE THAT HE HAS SERVED WITH, AND THANK ALL THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAD A POSITIVE IMPACT ON HIS MILITARY CAREER. THE LIST OF MENTORS, ROLE MODELS AND FRIENDS IS FAR TOO LONG FOR THIS MESSAGE.

4. MIKE AND HIS WIFE TRACY WILL REMAIN IN THE KINGSTON AREA, WHERE THEY WILL ENJOY CAMPING AND VOLUNTEERING WITH THE LOCAL SKATE CLUB. HE WILL POSSIBLY TRY SOME PART TIME WORK ONCE THE COUNTRY GETS BACK TO THE NEW NORMAL.
