RETIREMENT – CPL ERIC KLAASSEN – 00109 ATIS TECH

1. CORPORAL ERIC KLAASSEN WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 19 APR 2022 FOLLOWING 12 + YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE.

2. CPL KLAASSEN ENROLLED IN THE CAF ON 04 SEPTEMBER 2010, COMPLETING BASIC TRAINING IN SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, FOLLOWED BY ATIS TECHNICIAN TRAINING, POET AND QL3 AT CFSCE IN KINGSTON. UPON GRADUATION IN JULY 2012, CPL KLAASSEN WAS POSTED TO 8 ACCS IN TRENTON WHERE HE WAS EMPLOYED IN THE NAVAIDS, COMMUNICATION AND FINALLY CGS SECTION (THE BEST). CPL KLAASSEN WAS DEPLOYED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE AT 8 ACCS INCLUDING TWO MAPLE RESOLVES, TWO OPERATION BOXTOPS, TWO BOLD QUESTS, OPERATION CADENCE, AND OPERATION REASSURANCE IN ICELAND. THE OP TEMPO OF THIS POSTING WAS HARRIED AND VARIED WHICH WAS A GREAT TESTING GROUND TO DEVELOP AND HONE ATIS TECHNICIAN SKILLS. IN JULY 2018 CPL KLAASSEN WAS POSTED TO CFB WINNIPEG TO SUPPORT THE HIGH SIDE ENVIRONMENT.

3. CPL KLAASSEN WAS ABLE TO EXPERIENCE RATHER UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES AT 8 ACCS SUCH AS RIDING IN A GLIDER, FLYING NAP OF THE EARTH IN A BLACKHAWK, A CHINOOK HELICOPTER, AND A GRIFFON (WHY ARE THE TREES ABOVE ME?). HE GOT UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH A WOLF IN CFS ALERT AND ENJOYED THE BEAUTY OF GULLFOSS FALLS IN ICELAND.

4. ERIC AND HIS SPOUSE, TIA, WILL BE REMAINING IN WINNIPEG WITH IMMEDIATE AND EXTENDED FAMILY WHERE ERIC WILL CONTINUE SERVICE TO THE CAF COMMUNITY WORKING FOR SHARED SERVICE CANADA (SSC).
