RETIREMENT – CPL THEODORE J. COMPANION, CD – ATIS TECH

1.ON 02 MARCH 2022, CORPORAL THEODORE J. COMPANION WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES AFTER 40+ YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA. FOR NOW HE INTENDS ON STAYING IN THE GANDER AREA AND WISHES TO CONTINUE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE CANADIAN FORCES AS A CIVLIAN ON A 90 DAY CALL IN BASIS.

2.CPL COMPANION BEGAN HIS CAREER IN CFB COLD LAKE, SERVING WITH 42 RADAR SQUADRON, AS WELL AS A BRIEF TIME WITH 22 RADAR CONTROL WING HEADQUATERS. IN 1993 CAME A POSTING TO NORTH BAY. LONGING FOR THE MORE HARD CORE ASPECTS OF HIS TRADE, HE ACCEPTED A POSTING BACK TO COLD LAKE IN 1996. WHILE THERE, HE WORKED AT 42 RADAR AS A TECHNICIAN AND THEN AS TRANING NCO. IN 2007 HE DECIDED TO GET CLOSER TO HOME AND RECEIVED A POSTING TO CFB GANDER. DECIDING THIS IS WHERE HE WANTED TO STAY, HE COMPONENT TRANSFERRED TO THE SUPPLEMENTARY RESERVE IN 2013 AND HAS BEEN WORKING ON THE CANADIAN COASTAL RADAR UNTIL HIS UPCOMING RETIREMENT.

3.DUE TO CURRENT COVID RESTRICTIONS, A DEPART WITH DIGNITY CEREMONY WILL BE PLANNED IN THE FUTURE WHEN THE RESTRICTION LEVEL ALLOWS.

We only met for a short time in my quick tour of Gander. Ted, you’ve got to be one of the more colourful personalities I have met in my 30 years, bets of luck in the future!

Congratulations on your upcoming retirement Ted. The trout and rabbit numbers in NL are going to take a beating now.
