1. LIEUTENANT-COLONEL DAVE FREAKE WILL RETIRE FROM THE CAF AND THE C&E BRANCH ON 9 DEC 2020 AFTER MORE THAN 32 YEARS OF SERVICE.

2. LCOL FREAKE JOINED THE CAF IN AUGUST 1988 IN OTTAWA AS A DEO. HE WILL RETIRE AS THE LAST SERVING REG FORCE MEMBER OF HIS 1990 CELE AIR COURSE.

3. OPERATIONAL TOURS INCLUDE THE MANITOBA FLOODS IN 1997 AND AFGHANISTAN IN 2010 WITH ISAF JOINT COMMAND HQ.

4. CAREER HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE TOURS WITH THE DIRECTORATE OF ELECTRONICS, ENGINEERING AND MAINTENANCE, THE GLASS HOUSE (TELECOM PROJECTS BRANCH) AT THE AEROSPACE MAINTENANCE DEVELOPMENT UNIT IN TRENTON AND AS AN A6 STAFF OFFICER WITH FIGHTER GROUP/CANADIAN NORAD REGION HQ IN NORTH BAY.

5. FOLLOWING GRADUATION FROM AEROSPACE SYSTEMS COURSE 50 IN WINNIPEG, DAVE SERVED AS THE WTISO IN GANDER AND THEN 4 YEARS WITH NATO AWACS IN GERMANY. RETURNING TO CANADA IN 2005, HE DID A YEAR AS THE D/CIO FOR THE VCDS GROUP FOLLOWED BY BACK TO BACK OC TOURS AT CFSCE AND THE CF SIGINT OPS CENTRE LEITRIM. HE SPENT 3 YEARS AS A SECTION HEAD WITHIN THE DIRECTORATE OF BUDGET, 1 YEAR WITH DGIMO, AND WAS FORTUNATE TO BE SELECTED AS THE DEPUTY CANADIAN DEFENCE ATTACHÉ FOR ROMANIA IN 2016, PROBABLY THE HIGHLIGHT OF HIS CAREER. RETURNING TO OTTAWA IN 2019, HE’LL FINISH HIS MILITARY CAREER AS THE SECTION HEAD FOR LATIN AMERICA, THE CARIBBEAN AND ASIA PACIFIC PLANS WITH THE STRATEGIC JOINT STAFF.

6. DAVE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THOSE HE HAD THE PLEASURE AND PRIVILEGE TO SERVE WITH THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER WITH SPECIAL THANKS TO HIS WIFE LUCY AND DAUGHTER LYDIA FOR ALL THEIR SUPPORT.
