RETIREMENT – LCOL THOMAS SCOTT MCLEAN, CD – 00341 SIGS

1. LIEUTENANT-COLONEL THOMAS SCOTT (TS) MCLEAN WILL BE RETIRING FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES AFTER OVER 39 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA ON 17 NOVEMBER 2021.

2. TS BEGAN HIS CAREER AS AN OFFICER CADET AT ROYAL ROADS MILITARY COLLEGE, GRADUATING FROM THE ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE OF CANADA IN 1986 WITH A DEGREE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING. HE THEN COMPLETED HIS TRAINING AT THE CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS AS A COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING OFFICER (LAND). DURING HIS CAREER HE SERVED IN A WIDE VARIETY OF POSTS IN THE CANADIAN ARMY (CA), CANADIAN FORCES COMMUNICATION COMMAND (CFCC), THE DEFENCE INFORMATION SERVICES ORGANIZATION (DISO), THE INFORMATION MANAGEMENT GROUP (IM GP) AND THE MATERIEL GROUP (MAT GP). IN ADDITION TO COMMANDING 742 SIGNAL SQUADRON, HE SERVED OPERATIONAL TOURS IN IRAN-IRAQ, THE OKA CRISIS, CYPRUS AND BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA. BY FAR, HOWEVER, THE MAJORITY OF TS’ CAREER WAS SPENT ADDRESSING MANY DIVERSE ASPECTS OF THE FORCE DEVELOPMENT OF DIGITIZED, FULLY NETWORKED COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS CAPABILITIES WITHIN BOTH THE CA AND THE DISO/IM GP.

3. TS WILL REMAIN IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION WHERE HE HAS SECURED EMPLOYMENT WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IN ORDER TO CONTINUE HIS WORK AS PART OF THE CAPABILITY INTEGRATION TEAM IN 7 COMMUNICATION GROUP HEADQUARTERS.

4. A DWD WILL BE HELD AT THE ARMY OFFICERS’ MESS AT 1400 ON 14 DEC 2021.
