1. MAJOR ANN ERVIN WILL RETIRE ON 1 APR 2020 AFTER MORE THAN 42 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CAF AND THE COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS BRANCH.

2. MAJ ERVIN JOINED THE NAVAL RESERVE 4 JULY 1977 AS A FINANCE CLERK AT HMCS NONSUCH. AFTER SURVIVING CORNWALLIS, JLC AT PATRIOT, AND SEVERAL CLASS A AND B OPPORTUNITIES, SHE WOKE UP TO THE IDEA THAT BEING A PERMA-SHAD WAS PERHAPS NOT THE BEST OF CAREERS, SO IN JULY 1981 SHE TRANSFERRED (ROTP) TO THE REGULAR FORCE.

3. AFTER COMPLETION OF UNIVERSITY AND OCCUPATION COURSES, MAJ ERVIN STARTED HER LONG (HOW MANY MOVES CAN SHE HAVE BEFORE GOING TO OTTAWA) CAREER. HER NUMEROUS POSTINGS HAVE TAKEN HER TO WONDERFUL PLACES, SUCH AS EDMONTON (D/BTELO), KINGSTON (CFSCE INSTRUCTOR THEN STANDARDS), BORDEN (BTELO AND DCO BIS/706 COMM SQN), NORTH BAY (SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE OFFICER THEN WTISO), AND WINNIPEG (1 CAD A6 SECTION AND CAOC TIS COORD), BEFORE FINALLY COMING TO OTTAWA (ADM(MAT) R&CS THEN DMILC AS THE CELE CAREER MANAGER). SHE WAS ALSO POSTED OUTCAN WITH NORAD TO PANAMA CITY, FL AND COLORADO SPRINGS, CO AND HAD THE CHANCE TO DEPLOY TO HAITI AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE. ALTHOUGH SHE WAS PRIVILEGED TO HAVE HAD SEVERAL COMMAND TOURS, THE HIGHLIGHT OF HER CAREER WAS THE NUMEROUS (14+) YEARS SHE SPENT WORKING IN NORAD. SHE IS ENDING HER MILITARY CAREER WORKING IN THE DIRECTORATE OF MILITARY CAREERS AS THE DMILC 5, COMBAT SUPPORT, AND SECTION COORDINATOR.

4. MAJ ERVIN THANKS EVERYONE SHE HAS HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO SERVE WITH OVER THE YEARS FOR THEIR SUPPORT, GUIDANCE AND FRIENDSHIP. SHE ESPECIALLY THANKS THE SENIOR NCOS FOR THEIR SAGE ADVICE.

5. MAJ ERVIN AND HER HUSBAND DANNY ARE PLANNING TO STAY IN THE OTTAWA AREA WHERE ANN MIGHT PICK UP A JOB (SHE ISN’T LOOKING TOO HARD RIGHT NOW) WHILE DANNY STILL WORKS. THEY HAVE BEEN HAPPILY MARRIED FOR 33 YEARS AND ARE BOTH EXTREMELY PROUD OF THEIR TWO DAUGHTERS, KELSY (DAVE AND GRANDSON FELIX) AND LT KIMBERLY ERVIN (EME), AND SON LIAM. ANN THANKS ALL HER FAMILY FOR THEIR LOVE AND SUPPORT, AND THEIR ACCEPTANCE OF THE CHALLENGES BEING A PART OF A MILITARY FAMILY BRINGS. NOW EMPTY NESTERS (THEY HOPE), THEY WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THEIR CHILDREN IN ALL FUTURE ENDEAVOURS AND ENJOY WHATEVER ANN’S RETIREMENT PLANS BRINGS TO THEM.
