1. AFTER MORE THAN 36 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE MAJOR D. GUTOSKIE RETIRED FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 11 SEPTEMBER 2018.
2. MAJOR GUTOSKIE JOINED THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES AS A RADAR TECHNICIAN IN MARCH OF 1982. UPON COMPLETION OF HIS TRADES TRAINING AT THE CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS IN KINGSTON, ONTARIO HE WAS POSTED TO CANADIAN FORCES STATION KAMLOOPS WHERE HE WORKED ON BOTH THE SEARCH AND HEIGHT FINDER RADAR SYSTEMS. IN 1985 WITH THE REDUCTION OF THE HEAVY RADAR TRADE, HE OPTED FOR A VOLUNTARY REMUSTER TO THE FIRE CONTROL SYSTEMS TRADE. HE SPENT SIX MONTHS AT THE SERVICE BATTALION IN CALGARY BEFORE HEADING OFF TO BORDEN ONTARIO FOR HIS TRADES TRAINING. UPON COMPLETION OF HIS QL5 COURSE HE WAS APPOINTED MASTER CORPORAL AND BEGAN INSTRUCTING ON BOTH THE QL3 AND QL5 FIRE CONTROL SYSTEMS SERIALS. IN 1991 HE WAS POSTED TO THE LIGHT MAINTENANCE TROOP WITH 3/1 RCHA IN SHILO MANITOBA.
3. 1992/1993 THEN MASTER CORPORAL GUTOSKIE DEPLOYED TO CYPRUS AS PART OF OP SNOWGOOSE 58, AND AFTER RETURNING FROM CYPRUS HE WAS PROMOTED TO SERGEANT BEFORE COMMENCING THE UNIVERSITY TRAINING PROGRAM FOR NCMS. GRADUATING FROM BRANDON UNIVERSITY WITH A COMPUTER SCIENCE DEGREE, MAJOR D. GUTOSKIE WAS THEN POSTED TO KINGSTON TO COMPLETE HIS PHASE TRAINING AS A SIGNALS OFFICER. UPON COMPLETION OF TRAINING HE WAS POSTED TO 2 ELECTRONIC WARFARE SQUADRON AND DID AN OPERATIONAL TOUR IN BOSNIA AS THE SIGINT/EW TROOP COMMANDER WHERE HE WAS PROMOTED TO CAPTAIN. SHORTLY AFTER RETURNING FROM BOSNIA HE WAS TASKED WITH IMPLEMENTING A SIGINT SUPPORT ELEMENT AS PART OF THE STAND UP FOR THE JOINT OPERATIONAL GROUP HQ IN 2000.
4. CAPTAIN GUTOSKIE THEN MOVED ACROSS TO RESERVE EW SQUADRON AS THE DCO/REG FORCE ADVISOR. WHILE AT RES EW SQUADRON, HE WAS PART OF THE TRANSITION OF THE UNIT FROM CFIOG ACROSS TO THE COMMUNICATION RESERVES AS WELL AS ITS OFFICIAL STAND UP AS 772 EW SQN. POSTED TO FORT MEADE, MARYLAND IN 2005, HE WAS ASSIGNED TO THE PLANS AND EXERCISE SHOP AND UPON PROMOTION TO MAJOR, HE TRANSFERRED TO THE CYRPTOGRAPHIC MODERNIZATION PROGRAM OFFICE. MAJOR GUTOSKIE RETURNED TO CANADA IN 2010 TO HIS POSTING AS THE DEPUTY COMMANDING OFFICER FOR CFNOC, AND SUBSEQUENTLY AS THE J3 OPERATIONS OFFICER AT THE CANADIAN FORCES INFORMATION OPERATIONS GROUP HEADQUARTERS. IN AUGUST OF 2015 HE WAS POSTED TO THE JOINT FORCES CYBER GROUP IN CHELTENHAM, ENGLAND WHERE HE ESTABLISHED THE ROLE OF J35 CURRENT OPERATIONS.
5. UPON RETURN TO OTTAWA IN 2018 MAJOR D. GUTOSKIE FELT THAT THE TIME WAS RIGHT TO FINALLY SETTLE DOWN AND ENJOY BEING A GRANDFATHER. MAJOR D. GUTOSKIE HAS ACCEPTED A CIVILIAN POSITION WITHIN ADM(IM) AS A SECTION HEAD IN THE DGIMO CYBER OPERATIONS TEAM, AND WILL CONTINUE TO WORK TO EVOLVE DND/CAF CYBER OPERATIONS CAPABILITIES AND PROCESSES. MAJOR D. GUTOSKIE AND KOBY PLAN TO REMAIN IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION.
6. A DEPART WITH DIGNITY CEREMONY WILL BE HELD FOR MAJOR D. GUTOSKIE AT THE CFS LEITRIM ALL RANKS MESS, 1500 LEITRIM ROAD ON 12 OCTOBER 2018, 1300 – 1600. AT MAJOR D. GUTOSKIES REQUEST THE EVENT WILL BE AN INFORMAL BARBECUE WHERE FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES CAN GATHER TO SWAP MAJOR D. GUTOSKIE STORIES AND CELEBRATE HIS LONG CAREER OF SERVICE.
