1. AFTER 27 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE, MAJOR MARTIN RIVARD WILL BE RELEASING FROM HIS SERVICE TO THE CROWN AND THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 20 SEPTEMBER 2020.

2. HE JOINED THE COMMUNICATIONS RESERVE IN 1993 WITH 714 COMMUNICATIONS SQUADRON IN SHERBROOKE AND SERVED WITH 712 COMM SQN MONTREAL. IN 1999, MAJOR RIVARD TOOK THE EW STAFF OFFICER POSITION AT CFIOG HQ BEFORE TRANSFERRING TO THE REGULAR FORCE IN 2000, THINKING THAT GETTING MORE MONEY FOR THE EXACT SAME EFFORT WAS A GOOD MOVE. LACKING ANY TECHNICAL BACKGROUND, HE WAS ASSIGNED TO DLCSPM FOR HIS FIRST POSTING AS THE INTEGRATION ENGINEER ON THE TCCCS PROJECT FOR THE ARMY NAVIGATION SYSTEM AND THEN AS THE EW LCMM UNTIL 2004. SEEING THAT TECHNICAL WORK WOULD GET HIM NOWHERE IN THIS MAN’S ARMY, HE ARRANGED TO BE POSTED TO VALCARTIER WHERE HE OCCUPIED THE POSITIONS OF G6 OPS AT 5 CMBG HQ, AND SIG O 5 SVC BN. IT IS DURING THIS PERIOD THAT HE GOT HIS ONLY TOUR AS ECM TEAM LEADER WITH JOINT TASK FORCE AFGHANISTAN HEADQUARTERS IN KANDAHAR.

3. IN 2008, HE RETURNED TO OTTAWA AND JOINED IM GROUP TO MANAGE THE COLLABORATIVE OPERATIONAL PLANNING SYSTEM PROJECT AND THE CIS PORTION OF THE OPERATIONAL BUILDING PROJECT. IN EARLY 2010, HE WEASELED HIS WAY INTO THE ARMY STAFF FIRST AS DLR 4-3 AND THEN AS THE IN-SERVICE SIGNALS FLEET MANAGER WHERE HE LEAD A TEAM OF SPECIALISTS IN THE DELIVERY OF C4ISR CAPABILITY TO THE CANADIAN ARMY. IN 2013, HE BEGAN A SHORT EXILE IN IM GP’S DGIMO HQ AS THE CAPABILITY INTEGRATION DESK OFFICER BEFORE COMING BACK TO THE FIELD AS THE FIRST OFFICER COMMANDING 215 EW SQUADRON IN 21 EW REGT. FAILING TO MEET THE PARAMETERS OF HIS PAROLE, HE WAS POSTED TO DG CYBER IN OTTAWA AS A PROJECT DIRECTOR FOR CYBER CAPITAL EQUIPMENT PROJECTS, AND FINALLY AS THE SECTION HEAD FOR ALL CYBER EQUIPMENT PROJECTS. MAJOR RIVARD IS A GRADUATE OF UNIVERSITÉ DE SHERBROOKE, THE ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE OF CANADA AND OF THE CANADIAN ARMY COMMAND & STAFF COLLEGE.

4. MAJ RIVARD AND HIS FAMILY WILL REMAIN IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION AS HE JOINS THE EXECUTIVE RANKS AND ATTEMPTS TO IMPROVE BOTH HIS TENNIS SERVE AND GOLF GAME.

5. A DEPART WITH INDIGNITY, PANDEMIC PERMITTING, WILL BE HELD AT THE RIVARD FAMILY MANOR AT 121 DES MANOIRS IN GATINEAU ON 14 AUGUST 2020 STARTING AT 1300. FAREWELL MESSAGES AND ANECDOTES CAN BE SUBMITTED TO LCOL BRENNAN CORNELL OR MAJ ERJAN BAYATLI AT [email protected] AND E[email protected].
