1. MAJOR MATTHEW CHARETTE WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 20 JULY 20 AFTER 16 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA.

2. MATTHEW ENROLLED WITH THE CANADIAN ARMY IN SEPTEMBER 2004 AND COMPLETED HIS SIGNALS TRAINING IN 2007. HE HAS SERVED IN VARIOUS OPERATIONAL AND STAFF APPOINMENTS INCLUDING 2 ASG SIG SQN, CFS LEITRIM, DLCSPM, CFSSG, CFIOG DET FORT MEADE AND MOST RECENTLY COMMANDED A SQN AT CFNOC. THROUGHOUT THIS TIME HE ALSO DEPLOYED ON OP SAFARI AS A UNITED NATIONS MILITARY OBSERVER.

3. THE HIGHLIGHTS OF MATTHEW’S CAREER ARE THE EXPERIENCE HE GAINED WHILE EMBEDDED WITHIN THE CYBER NATIONAL MISSION FORCE AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEAD AND WORK ALONG SIDE SOME OF THE BEST PROFESSIONALS HE’S EVER MET DURING HIS TENURE AT CFNOC.

3. MATTHEW WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL OF THOSE WITH WHOM HE SERVED, AND IS GRATEFUL FOR THE LIFELONG FRIENDSHIPS DEVELOPED OVER HIS 16 YEARS IN UNIFORM. MATTHEW HAS A LONG LIST OF FAMILY, FRIENDS, MENTORS, SUPERVISORS AND COLLEAGUES THAT HAVE SUPPORTED HIM THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER. HE WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR THEIR COLLECTIVE GUIDANCE, SUPPORT AND MUTUAL RESPECT.

4. UPON RETIREMENT, MATTHEW HAS TAKEN UP A JOB IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR WHERE HE’LL REMAIN IN OTTAWA WITH HIS WIFE, NICOLE AND THEIR THREE CHILDREN: TYLER, CONNOR AND MICHELLE.
