1. ON 26 JULY 2019, MAJ SIMON LAROCQUE RETIRED FROM THE
CANADIAN ARMED FORCES AFTER 34 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE.

2. SIMON STARTED HIS CAREER AS A RADIO TECHNICIAN IN 1985. HE SERVED
AT CFS ALDERGROVE (MATSQUI) WHERE HE APPLIED FOR THE UTPNCM PROGRAM
IN 1990. UPON COMPLETING CMR IN 1995, HIS FIRST POSTING AS A CELE
OFFICER WAS AT QETE. AFTER SPENDING FOUR BUSY YRS AT CFIOG DURING
911, HE WAS REWARDED BY TAKING ON A RELAXING JOB WITH RCS RSAOC
PROJECT DURING THE IMPLEMENTATION PHASE FROM 2003 TO 2006 WHERE HE
WAS PROMOTED TO HIS CURRENT RANK. THE TRUE REWARD WAS REALY WHEN
HE WAS POSTED TO THE NAEWC IN GERMANY AS THE INOFSEC OFFICER WHERE
HIS YOUNGEST SON WAS BORN. UPON RETURNING TO CANADA IN 2010, SIMON
WAS POSTED TO CANADA COMMAND WHERE HE WITNESSED THE STAND UP OF CJOC
AS A MEMBER OF THE J6 BRANCH. IN 2014, SIMON RETURNED TO RCS AS ATMS
MANAGER FOR A SHORT DURATION BEFORE TAKING ON THE NEWLY ESTABLISHED
POSITION OF CYBER PROJECT OFFICER IN 2015. DUE TO PERSONNEL
CIRCUMSTANCES AND TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE
WORKING IN THE CYBER DOMAIN, SIMON TRANSFERRED TO THE RESERVE IN
2017 WITH THE AIR STAFF AS A STRATEGIC CYBER OFFICER. HE IS VERY
PROUD TO HAVE HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO SERVE WITH VERY PROFESSIONAL AND
DEDICATED MEMBERS OF THE CANADIAN DEFENCE TEAM.

3. SIMON IS PLANNING TO REMAIN IN THE OTTAWA AREA WITH HIS FAMILY.
THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER, SIMON’S TRADE MARK WAS HIS HAIR STYLE WHICH
ALWAYS EXASPERATED CHIEF’S EVERYWHERE HE WAS POSTED. HE WILL NOW BE
ABLE TO ADOPT THE HAIR STYLE OF HIS LIKING AS HE WILL BE WORKING AS
AN EMBEDED CONTRACTOR WITH DGAEPM. ADDITIONALLY, SIMON LOOKS FORWARD
TO CONTINUE ENJOYING WEEKENDS AT TREMBLANT WITH HIS WIFE
MARIE-FRANCE AND HIS YOUNGEST SON CEDRIK. ALTHOUGH NOT LIVING AT
HOME ANYMORE, HIS DAUGHTER MARIE-SOLEIL AND HIS SON FRANCIS ETIENNE
HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A CONSTENT SOURCE OF JOY, LOVE, AND MOTIVATION.

4. SIMON BEING A LOW PROFILE KIND A GUY INTENDS TO CELEBRATE HIS
RETIREMENT WITH AN INFORMAL DWD SETTING ON 3 OCTOBER 2019. FRIENDS
AND COLLEAGUES ARE INVITED TO SEND CONGRATULATORY NOTES TO CWO SHAWN
