1. ORIGINALLY FROM FORT MCMURRAY, AB, MCPL SCOTT ENROLLED IN THE CAF SHORTLY AFTER HIS 18TH BIRTHDAY ON 10 APR 2002 IN EDMONTON, AB. DIRECTED TO CFLRS, MCPL SCOTT COMPLETED HIS BASIC TRAINING AND EMBARKED ON AN EXCITING JOURNEY SERVING THE CA/CAF FOR JUST SHY OF 18 YEARS.
2. POSTED TO CFSCE, CFB KINGSTON, FOR LCIS TECH QL3 TRAINING, HE WAS BLESSED BY THE SYSTEM AND REDIRECTED TO ST. LAWRENCE COLLEGE IN KINGSTON, ON TO UNDERTAKE HIS TRADE QUALIFICATION: OBTAINING AN ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN DIPLOMA.
3. UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF HIS TRADE CURRICULUM AT ST. LAWRENCE COLLEGE, MCPL SCOTT WAS POSTED TO CFB EDMONTON FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD, JUNE 2004 TO JULY 2013, TO PRACTICALLY APPLY HIS TRADECRAFT IN NUMEROUS ENVIRONMENTS ACROSS MULTIPLE POSTINGS WHICH INCLUDED 1 HQ & SIGS (X2), 1 GS BN, 1 SVC BN, 408 THS, AND 742 SIG SQN. HIS TIME AND EXPERIENCE IN EDMONTON LED TO A HIGHLIGHT OF HIS CAREER IN THAT HE DEPLOYED AND COMPLETED A TOUR IN AFGHANISTAN WITH 1 SVC BN AS A MEMBER OF THE MISSION TRANSITION TASK FORCE – VEHICLE PRODUCTION LINE IN 2011.
4. AFTER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE IN EDMONTON, IT WAS DETERMINED HE HAD OVERSTAYED HIS WELCOME, LEADING TO HIS CM ‘THROWING HIM A BONE’ PROMOTING HIM TO MCPL AND POSTING TO CFB ESQUIMALT – BASE INFORMATION SERVICES (BIS) AS THE 2IC OF SECURE NETWORKS IN JULY 2013. SHORTLY AFTER HIS ARRIVAL AT BIS, HE WAS THRUST INTO THE A/IC ROLE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, WHERE HE DISPLAYED SUPERIOR COMPETENCY IN MANAGING A HIGH TEMPO OPERATIONAL SECTION IMPLEMENTING AND PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR COMSEC, SATCOMMS, LEVEL 2 NETWORKS, AND IT INFRASTRUCTURE WITHIN RCN STATIC AND DEPLOYED UNITS, VESSELS, AND MARPAC INITIATIVES WHILE ALSO BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS NUMEROUS SUBORDS AND ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES. THE ‘FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION’ ATTITUDE, WITH WHICH MCPL SCOTT GOVERNED HIMSELF, SPOKE VOLUMES TO HIS LEADERSHIP CAPACITY, EARNING THE RESPECT OF HIS SUPERIORS, PEERS AND SUBORDINATES, GREATLY BENEFITING BIS AND HIS SECTION DURING A CHALLENGING PERIOD OF TIME.
5. IN CLOSING OFF A WELL-ROUNDED CAREER WITHIN THE CAF, HIS FAVORITE MEMORIES INCLUDE ATTENDING THE CALGARY STAMPEDE WITH 408 THS, EX COMBINED ENDEAVOR WITH 1 HQ & SIGS, AND ROAD TRIPS TO PERFORM ANNUAL TECHNICAL INSPECTIONS (ATIS) WITH 1 GS BN. IRONICALLY, OTHER FAVORITE MEMORIES ARE THOSE FROM TIMES OF GREAT DIFFICULTY: HIGH OPERATIONAL TEMPO, WINTER WARFARE TRAINING, EXCESSIVELY LONG EXERCISES, CORRECTING COMPLEX FAULTS ON UNFAMILIAR EQUIPMENT, AND EVEN PLQ; THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MUTUAL SUFFERING THAT CREATES FRIENDSHIPS AND A SENSE OF BROTHERHOOD THAT WILL BE MISSED.
6. BELOVED AND ADORED BY ALL WHO HAD THE HONOUR OF MEETING HIM, DREW WILL BE RETIRING EFFECTIVE 15 FEB 2020 UPON COMPLETION OF HIS VPRSM AND WILL REMAIN IN VICTORIA, BC WITH HIS WIFE MYA AND THEIR DAUGHTER NOVA. HE IS CURRENTLY PURSUING FORMAL TRAINING TO OBTAIN A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER DESIGNATION.

8. WHILE A DWD LUNCHEON WAS PREVIOUSLY HELD, ANY FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES, AND ASSOCIATES WHO WOULD LIKE TO PASS ALONG ANY WELL WISHES MAY DO SO BY FORWARDING THEM TO SGT CULLEN VIA EMAIL [email protected], WHO WILL ENSURE THEY ARE PASSED ON TO MCPL SCOTT.
