1. MAJOR GENERAL G. LOOS WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES AFTER 33 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA. HE CURRENTLY SERVES AS THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES J6, CYBER FORCE COMMANDER, CHIEF OF STAFF (INFORMATION MANAGEMENT) AND THE COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS BRANCH LEADER.
2. BORN INTO A MILITARY FAMILY IN OTTAWA, MGEN LOOS LIVED ACROSS CANADA BEFORE ENROLLING IN THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES IN JUNE 1985 AND EMBARKING ON HIS CAREER AS A CELE(AIR) OFFICER. DURING HIS LONG AND DISTINGUISHED CAREER, MGEN LOOS WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE COMMANDED COMMUNICATION SQUADRON BADEN, WEST GERMANY, 8 AIR COMMUNICATION AND CONTROL SQUADRON (THE GYPSIES) TRENTON, THE CANADIAN FORCES JOINT SIGNAL REGIMENT KINGSTON, CANADIAN FORCES INFORMATION OPERATIONS GROUP OTTAWA, AND JOINT TASK FORCE NORTH YELLOWKNIFE. HE ALSO SERVED IN VARIOUS STAFF CAPACITIES INCLUDING AS THE INAUGURAL CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCES COMMAND J6 AND AS THE FIRST DIRECTOR GENERAL CYBERSPACE.
3. MGEN LOOS DEPLOYED TO RWANDA, UGANDA AND ZAIRE AS PART OF OP ASSURANCE AND TO KUWAIT FOR OP DETERMINATION. HIS FINAL DEPLOYMENT WAS TO KABUL AS THE CHIEF CJ6 AT INTERNATIONAL SECURITY ASSISTANCE FORCE HEADQUARTERS, FOR WHICH HE WAS AWARDED THE NATO MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL. OTHER CAREER HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE OBTAINING A MASTER’S DEGREE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING FROM THE ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE OF CANADA, GRADUATING FROM THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF DEFENCE STUDIES IN THE UNITED KINGDOM, AND BEING A RECIPIENT OF THE ORDER OF MILITARY MERIT.
4. MGEN LOOS WILL BE REMAINING IN THE OTTAWA/MERRICKVILLE AREA WITH HIS WIFE AND THEIR SON, WHERE HE WILL BE TRANSITIONING TO INDUSTRY, TO SERVE IN A STRATEGIC ADVISORY ROLE TO DEFENCE AND SECURITY ORGANIZATIONS.
5. A COMBINED DEPART WITH DIGNITY CEREMONY AND LUNCHEON FOR ALL RANKS, FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES WILL BE HELD TO HONOUR BOTH MGEN GREG LOOS’ AND BGEN R. MAZZOLIN’S DISTINGUISHED CAREERS ON 8 JUNE 2018, STARTING AT 1200HRS, AT THE CFS LEITRIM MESS (3545 LEITRIM ROAD, OTTAWA). MARY HAS ASSURED US THAT GENERAL LOOS WILL NOT PLAY HIS GUITAR OR SING, ALTHOUGH HE MAY START SHARING WAR STORIES FROM HIS GYPSY TIME OR FROM THE NORTH. A HOT BUFFET LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED AT A COST OF $20, A SMALL PORTION OF WHICH WILL GO TO DEPARTURE GIFTS.
