MWO CHAD ZOPF WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 31 OCT 23 AFTER 27+ YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE RCCS.

MWO CHAD ZOPF WAS BORN IN REGINA, SK. IN MAY 1996, HE ENROLLED AS A RADIO OPERATOR AND WAS WHISKED AWAY TO CFLRS IN ST. JEAN SUR RICHELIEU FOR BASIC TRAINING. FOLLOWING HIS GRADUATION, PTE ZOPF WAS SENT TO CFB BORDEN FOR HIS DRIVER WHEEL QUALIFICATION AND THEN OFF TO CFSCE FOR RAD OP QL3. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COURSE INCLUDED THE 106 & 77 SET RADIOS, CURRENTLY IN THE C&E MUSEUM.

MWO ZOPF WAS POSTED TO 1 CMBG HQ & SIG SQN, CALGARY, AB IN DEC OF 1996 JUST IN TIME TO BE ISSUED A BROOM AND CLEAN UP THE BUILDING TO RELOCATE TO CFB EDMONTON. HE HAS BEEN POSTED TO 1 CER; 742 SIG SQN (TWICE) ; 408 THS; 1 ASG HQ; 765 COMM SQN; 3 CDSG SIG SQN & BACK TO 1 CMBG HQ & SIG SQN AFTER AN 18 YEAR HIATUS. CHAD’S FINAL MOVE WAS TO CA HQ AS THE CA FOREPERSON OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS.

THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER MWO ZOPF HAS DEPLOYED WITH THE 3 PPCLI BG IN 2000 TO OP PALLADIUM IN BOSNIA. HE THEN DEPLOYED IN 2004 ON OP HALO IN HAITI, TWICE TO OP ATHENA IN AFGHANISTAN IN 2008 & 2011 AND LASTLY TO OP REASSURANCE IN LATVIA IN 2019.

MWO ZOPF’S CAREER HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: PARTICIPATING IN THE 100TH NIJMEGEN MARCH IN 2016, THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY PARADE AT VIMY RIDGE IN 2017 AND ATTENDING THE 110TH CELEBRATIONS OF THE RCCS WITH PTE TED PATRICK A WWII SIGNALS VETERAN.

MWO ZOPF IS VERY THANKFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITIES TO HAVE WORKED WITH OUTSTANDING MEMBERS WITHIN THE CAF AND OTHER NATIONS WHOM HE HAS HAD THE PLEASURE OF CROSSING PATHS WITH.

CHAD HAS SECURED EMPLOYMENT IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR THAT WILL KEEP HIM IN ALBERTA. HE WILL CONTINUE TO ENJOY THE -45 WINTERS AND CHEERING ON HIS HABS & RIDERS WITH HIS LOVELY WIFE BARB AND HIS CHILDREN MORGAN, ALEX & MYLEE. A DEPART WITH DIGNITY CEREMONY WILL TAKE PLACE ON 4 NOV 23 AT 1130AM AT CAPITAL PIZZA IN ST. ALBERT, 17 ST ANNE STREET.
