  1. WARRANT OFFICER (WO) ) WAYNE HAUGHTON WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES (CAF) ON 22 MAY 2024 AFTER 20 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO CANADA.

 

  1. WO HAUGHTON ENROLLED IN THE CAF ON 1 APRIL 2004 IN MONTREAL, QC AS AN AEROSPACE TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN (ATIS TECH). FOLLOWING THE COMPLETION OF BASIC TRAINING IN SAINT-JEAN, QC, WO HAUGHTON WAS TRANSFERRED TO KINGSTON, ON, TO THE CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS (CFSCE) FOR PERFORMANCE ORIENTED ELECTRONICS TRAINING (POET) AND ATIS TECH QL3 TRAINING. IN NOVEMBER 2005, WO HAUGHTON WAS POSTED TO CFB ESQUIMALT DET ALDERGROVE WHERE HE WAS EMPLOYED AS AN HF/LF TECHNICIAN IN SUPPORT OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY (RCN). IN JULY 2010 WO HAUGHTON WAS POSTED TO CANADIAN FORCES STATION LEITRIM. DURING HIS TIME AT LEITRIM WO HAUGHTON SUPPORTED THE STATION’S CABLE INFASTRUCTURE. IN 2012 WO HAUGHTON DEPLOYED TO CANADIAN FORCES STATION ALERT AS THE INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECH. UPON HIS RETURN FROM THE NORTH, WO HAUGHTON WAS EMPLOYED IN THE DEPLOYED OPERATIONAL SYSTEM SUPPORT (DOSS) SECTION OF LEITRIM, WHERE HE PROVIDED SIGNAL INTELLIGENCE SUPPORT TO THE RCN IN SUPPORT OF OP REASSURANCE. IN 2013 HE WAS PROMOTED TO MCPL AND EMPLOYED AS THE ACTING SGT OF THE DOSS SECTION. IN 2015 HE MOVED TO THE OPERATIONS & TRAINING SECTION OF LEITRIM WHERE HE MANAGED THE READINESS AND TECHNICAL TRAINING FOR SUPPORT SQUADRON. IN APRIL 2017 THE COMMANDING OFFICER (CO) OF CFS LEITRIM AWARDED HIM THE FIRST BATTLEFIELD TOUR TO VIMY RIDGE FOR THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF VIMY RIDGE, ORGANIZED BY THE COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS BRANCH. UPON HIS RETURN FROM VIMY RIDGE WO HAUGHTON WAS PROMOTED TO THE RANK OF SGT AND POSTED TO AEROSPACE TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND ENGINEERING SUPPORT SQUADRON (ATESS) LOCATED AT CANADIAN FORCES BASE TRENTON. WHILE AT ATESS, WO HAUGHTON WAS EMPLOYED AS THE AIRFIELD MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR. AFTER ONE YEAR AT ATESS HIS CHAIN OF COMMAND RECOGNIZED HIS POTENTIAL AND EMPLOYED HIM AS THE ACTING WO FOR AIRFIELD MAINTENANCE FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS. IN AUGUST 2020, WO HAUGHTON WAS TRANSFERRED BACK TO OTTAWA WHERE HE WAS EMPLOYED AS A CREW CHIEF FOR 76 COMM REGIMENT DET KINGSTON. AS CREW CHIEF, HE INSTALLED AND MAINTAINED SECURE NETWORKS. IN JULY 2021 WO HAUGHTON WAS PROMOTED TO HIS CURRENT RANK AND TRANSFERRED TO DIRECTOR GENERAL AEROSPACE ENGINEERING AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT (DGAEPM), WHERE HE WAS EMPLOYED AS A LIFE CYCLE MATERIAL MANAGER (LCMM) FOR AIR FORCE COMMAND AND CONTROL INFORMATION SYSTEMS (AFCCIS).

 

  1. WO HAUGHTON WILL ALWAYS APPRECIATE HIS TIME SPENT IN THE CAF, THAT HE HAS SERVED HIS COUNTRY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE MANY FRIENDSHIPS, STORIES AND MEMORIES MADE OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS. HE ALSO GREATLY APPRECIATES THOSE THAT HAVE SERVED AS MENTORS OVER THE COURSE OF HIS MILITARY CAREER.

 

  1. WO HAUGHTON IS ESPECIALLY GRATEFUL FOR THE CONTINOUS SUPPORT AND SACRIFICE FROM HIS BEST FRIEND AND WIFE, ANIK, AND HIS TWO INCREDIBLE KIDS, MATTHEW, AND BRIANNA. HE WILL CONTINUE TO SERVE THE COUNTRY AS A PUBLIC SERVANT IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL DEFENCE.

A DEPART WITH DIGNITY (DWD) EVENT WILL BE HELD AT MILL STREET BREW PUB LOCATED AT 555 WELLINGTON STREET IN OTTAWA ON WEDNESDAY 22 MAY 2024, FROM 1330 HRS TO 1530 HRS, FOLLOWED BY THE PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES.
