1. THIS IS TO ANNOUNCE THAT WARRANT OFFICER L. MACDONALD, CYBER OPERATOR 00378-01 (CYBER OP), WILL BE RETIRING FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 11 JANUARY 2019 AFTER MORE THAN 20 YEARS OF SERVICE IN THE REGULAR FORCES.

2. WO MACDONALD HAS ENJOYED A DIVERSE AND REWARDING CAREER IN THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES. AFTER A SHORT TIME IN THE RESERVES WITH 721 COMM TROOP GLACE BAY, WO MACDONALD JOINED THE REGULAR FORCE ON 19 JUNE 1998 AS AN OFFICER CADET AT THE ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE. AFTER REACHING THE AGE OF ENLIGHTENMENT HE TRANSFERRED TO THE COMMUNCATOR RESEARCH TRADE IN NOVEMBER 2001. FOLLOWING HIS TRADES TRAINING AT CFSCE KINGSTON WAS POSTED TO CFS LEITRIM. HE COMPLETED TWO YEARS TRAINING TO BECOME A FARSI LINGUIST AT THE ASTICOU CENTRE. HE WAS POSTED TO 21 EW REGIMENT IN 2007 FOR FOUR YEARS. AFTER COMPLETING HIS SECOND TOUR WITH 21 EW REGT HE WAS POSTED TO CFLRS ST-JEAN AS A BASIC TRAINING INSTRUCTOR FOR THREE YEARS. HIS FINAL POSTING HAS BEEN WITH THE CANADIAN FORCES NETWORK OPERATIONS CENTER (CFNOC) WHERE HE BECAME ONE OF THE FIRST CYBER OPERATORS IN THE CAF AND IS EMPLOYED AS THE NETWORK SECURITY MONITORING WARRANT OFFICER.

3. WO MACDONALD HAS COMPLETED TWO TOURS OF DUTY IN AFGHANISTAN (2008 AND 2010) AS AN ELECTRONIC WARFARE OPERATOR AND HAS PARTICIPATED IN NUMEROUS TRAINING AND EXERCISES.

4. WO MACDONALD WILL BE REMAINING IN THE OTTAWA AREA WITH HIS WIFE, WHERE HE HAS TAKEN A JOB WITHIN THE PUBLIC SECTOR. A DEPART WITH DIGNITY CEREMONY IS SCHEDULED FOR 11 JANUARY 2019, TO BE HELD IN THE ALL RANKS MESS, CFS LEITRIM AT 1200 HRS.
