RETIREMENT – WO Martin Mailloux, CD – 00109 – ATIS TECH

1. WO MAILLOUX WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES ON 13 AUGUST 2022, AFTER COMPLETING 20 YEARS OF SERVICE.

2. WO MAILLOUX JOINED THE CAF IN 2002 IN NORTH BAY, ON. HE COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AT CFB ESQUIMALT, BC. HE WAS SENT TO THE CANADIAN FORCES SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ELECTRONICS, AT CFB KINGSTON, ON. AFTER WHICH, HE BECAME AN AEROSPACE TELECOMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN AT AEROSPACE TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND ENGINEERING SUPPORT SQUADRON AT 8 WING IN TRENTON, ON.

HIS FIRST POSTING WAS TO 22 WING NORTH BAY, ON IN THE NORAD UNDERGROUND COMPLEX. HE SERVED THERE AS AN AIR DEFENCE SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN ON “D CREW.”  HIS PRINCIPLE DUITES WERE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS ON THE FYQ-93 AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM AND VARIOUS DATA-LINK EQUIPMENT. HE WAS SELECTED TO BE PART OF THE MODERNIZATION TEAM PREPARING THE ABOVE-GROUND COMPLEX AND UPGRADING THE NEW AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM TO THE BATTLE CONTROL SYSTEM.  

HIS KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE ON THE BATTLE CONTROL SYSTEM PAVED THE WAY TO A POSITION AT THE NORAD SYSTEM SITE FACILITY AT TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, FLORIDA WHICH HE PROVIDED TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR SYSTEM TESTING. 

IN 2015, HE RETURNED TO 22 WING NORTH BAY, WHERE HE WAS EMPLOYED IN VARIOUS POSITIONS SUCH AS SYSTEM MAINTENANCE CREW CHIEF, WORKSHOPS SUPERVISOR, PROJECTS AND NORAD CAPABILITIES AND INTEGRATION.  

DURING HIS TIME IN THE CAF, HE WAS PART OF VARIOUS FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC OPERATIONS SUCH AS: OP IMPACT, OP NOBLE EAGLE, OP CADENCE, OP PODIUM, AND EX MAPLE GUARDIAN. IN 2010, HE WAS SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 65TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION OF THE NETHERLANDS AND IN 2013, WAS SELECTED AS THE C&E BRANCH MEMBER OF THE YEAR. 

3. HE HAS ACCEPTED EMPLOYMENT WITH CANADIAN NETWORK INSTALLATIONS WHERE HE WILL PROVIDE NETWORK AND COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT FOR 22 WING, NORTH BAY. HE PLANS TO SPEND HIS SPARE TIME HUNTING AND FISHING IN THE NORTHERN ONTARIO OUTDOORS.
