C&E Combined Mess Dinner
The C&E Branch will host a C&E Combined Mess Dinner on Friday October 25 night (registration on CMCEN, available in person only).
Registration for C&E Combined Mess Dinner is now open. REGISTRATION CLOSES: 14 Oct 2024. No changes authorized after this date. If you are unable to attend, you are still liable for payment.
This event will again be held without spouses / guests, and will take place at the Vimy Officers’ Mess (VOM) on Friday, 25 October 2024 commencing at 1730 for 1800 hours. The dress for the evening is DEU 2 (Mess Dress) or DEU 2B (Mess Service Dress), dinner jacket, suit and tie, or equivalent for female attendees. Wearing of miniatures is encouraged.
The traditional focus of this dinner is to provide a forum for reminiscing, camaraderie, renewing old friendships, and making new ones. It is a most pleasurable annual gathering, which we are privileged to attend in the beautiful and nostalgic surroundings of the VOM. This year’s Mess Dinner will include a fireside chat period where members can ask the General Officers and Colonels questions in an organized but informal setting.
Keeping with the traditions of the original dinner, a formal seating plan will be in place.
As always accommodation, on and off Base, will be at a premium so you are advised to book as soon as possible.
Meal Choices:
The meal options offer flexibility for both palate and dietary considerations:
a. Salad. Baby Spinach and Strawberry Salad with Thyme Vinaigrette, Feta Cheese and Roasted Pecans
b. Soup. Roasted Italian Tomato Soup
c. Meal. Choice of:
i. Choice 1 – Braised AAA Angus Beef Short Rib, with Yorkshire Pudding, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables and Gravy;
ii. Choice 2 – Roasted Chicken Supreme stuffed with Mushrooms/Spinach, with Vegetables, Cheddar Whipped Potatoes and Hunter Sauce; or
iii. Choice 3 – (VEG) Italian Tofu Steak with White Bean Ragout, Vegetables and Gremolata.
d. Dessert. Chocolate Decadence Cake
Drink Choices. Wine (Red or White) service and Port will be included in the dinner payment. Bar will be open for alcoholic beverages at own cost (except during mandatory break towards end of mess dinner). Non-alcoholic wine will be available for attendees. Attendees drink options can be identified during registration.
Payment Choices:
Reg Forces Members will have the dinner payment deducted directly from their pay. They must all sign the acquittance roll prior to entry to the mess area.

Major Bruce Carruthers Gravesite Ceremony
The Commanding Officer and Regimental Sergeant-Major of the Canadian Forces Joint Signal Regiment will host the Major Bruce Carruthers Memorial Gravesite Ceremony at the Cataraqui Cemetery, Kingston Ontario.
W. Bruce M. Carruthers, a Kingston native and hero of the Boer War. He proposed that a specialist signaling corps be created to ensure standardization of signaling among Canadian army units. His proposal was accepted and on 24 October 1903, General Order (GO) 167 authorized formation of the “Canadian Signaling Corps (Militia)” (CSC) – the first independently organized Signal Corps in the British Empire. On 21 October 1910, Bruce Carruthers died in Kingston at the age of 47 and was buried in Cataraqui Cemetery.

RCCS Corps Conference
The RCCS aims to facilitate a Corps Conference twice per year. Each iteration targets a range of subjects spanning recruitment & retention issues to operational & training concerns. This engagement shall leverage the expertise of key RCCS leadership and staff to examine how to address complex issues and challenges whilst updating attendees with a ‘State of the Corps’ series of briefings.
The RCCS Corps Conference shall be hosted at the Vimy Officers’ Mess (VOM) with a virtual attendance option offered via MS Teams. All links are embedded in the Joining Instructions are internal to the DWAN.
