1. SERGEANT RICHARD NEWTON WILL RETIRE FROM THE CANADIAN FORCES ON 17 FEBRUARY 2021 AFTER 31 PLUS YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE.

2. RICHARD ENROLLED IN THE CANADIAN FORCES ON 20 APRIL 1989 IN VANCOUVER, BC. HE HAS SERVED AT THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS DURING HIS CAREER: CFS MASSET, 771 COMM RSCH SQN, CFS LEITRIM (x3), CFIOG DET FORT MEADE, CANADIAN FORCES LANGUAGE SCHOOL (x2), AND CFNOC (x2).

3. RICHARD HAS COMPLETED ONE TOUR IN CFS ALERT, ONE DEPLOYMENT WITH HMCS FREDERICTON AS PART OF OP APOLLO, AND ONE LAST TOUR WITH THE NATIONAL COMMAND ELEMENT IN AFGHANISTAN.

4. RICHARD THANKS ALL THOSE WHOM HE SERVED WITH, AND IS THANKFUL FOR THE LONG AND GREAT FRIENDSHIPS DEVELOPED OVER HIS TIME IN UNIFORM. RICHARD IS ALSO GRATEFUL TO ALL WHO HELPED HIM OVER THE YEARS. NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE UNWAVERING SUPPORT OF HIS TWO SONS, ANDREW AND MATTHEW.

5. RICHARD WILL COMMENCE A NEW CAREER WITH DND AS HE HAS SECURED EMPLOYMENT WITHIN THE PUBLIC SERVICE IN OTTAWA.

6. NO DEPART WITH DIGNITY EVENT WILL BE HELD AT HIS TIME DUE TO THE CURRENT SITUATION. A SMALL GATHERING WILL BE ORGANIZED WHEN CONDITIONS PERMIT.
